School Captains' Report

Well, hasn’t the start of this year just flown by!  There are so many amazing things happening this year and as your School Captains' we are both so excited to share them all with you.

Valentine’s Day may have been last month, but there’s still always time to find your Valentine and as the old saying goes, “The best way into the heart is through the stomach”.  So why not go down to the Year 12 Breakfast Club every Friday and enjoy our hearty breakfast. There’s tons of food, juice and of course, all the Year 12 Captains to deliver the best breakfast we can! It’s a great way to get Friday off to a positive start.

Speaking of Fridays (more like Friyay), what better way to end the week than to have some fun with Funky Sock Friday! Every Friday, Year 12 students have the opportunity to donate a gold coin to the Wildlife Victoria Bushfire appeal, for the chance to wear their funkiest socks. We have had a fair few interesting pairs so far and are excited to see more to come.

Perhaps what was even more interesting was the School Swimming Carnival. For the Year 12s, this was our last chance to participate in this event and it was exhilarating to see all the quirky and cool costumes everyone had brought to the stage. The day was a great chance to have some fun with each other and make some awesome memories of our final year.  It was such an exciting experience and we all can’t wait to see what everyone pulls out later in the year for the Athletics Carnival.

Definitely the most exciting experience so far, must be the French Exchange students. What an exciting chance for them to experience Australian culture and for us to share that with them, whilst learning small snippets of French culture at the same time! It is definitely a daunting experience for them and we commend them on taking the leap, as well as those of us who, welcomed them into our homes for this short period of time. There was a lot of work done by teachers and host families alike, to make this such a successful exchange and we know, the French students have all left with many new friends and memories.

It also won’t be long until the students from our school embark on their part of the exchange to France and we all look forward to seeing the pictures and hearing all the stories about life in France.

This year is already going so fast!  We remind everyone to take a moment to breathe and enjoy the opportunities that come your way. Especially Year 12’s, as this is your last chance in high school!

Resilience and Gratitude

Our gratitude board is back out the front of Room V05. Make sure you add your reflection on what you’re grateful for.

Funky Socks Friday and Year 12 Breakfast

Funky Socks Friday is back this year!  All Year 12 students are invited to wear ‘funky socks’ each Friday for a gold coin donation.

The Year 12 cohort has chosen to donate the proceeds of Term 1, to the Victorian Wildlife Bushfire Appeal.

Every Friday morning from 8 am, breakfast is held in the VCE Centre for Year 12 students.

VCE IPT and SAC Redemption

All VCE students have study periods together on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Periods 5 and 6 and Friday, Period 6.

The aim is to run all SACs, examinations, year level assemblies, guest speakers and other activities during this time to minimise class disruption.

If there are no relevant activities for your child during this time, they are free to go home to study. However, students are more than welcome to stay at school and study.

IPT SAC Schedule

The IPT SAC schedule for Term 1 (Weeks 6-9) has been posted on the Year 11 and 12 Google Classrooms.

Students need to read these carefully to ensure there are no SAC clashes. If a student does have a SAC clash, they will need to visit the Senior School Office to complete a SAC clash form.

This will provide them with an opportunity to reschedule one of the SACs for the next available time slot in IPT.

The times for SACs are:

  • Tuesday during IPT,  Periods 5 and 6
  • Thursday during IPT,  Periods 5 and 6
  • Friday during IPT,  Period 6 (one period SAC only)

Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.

VCE Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit for absences from class,  there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon Study Periods or after school.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study Periods, Periods 1 and 2.

Absences on COMPASS

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved.  You can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.

VCE students and cars

Some students will acquire a car and licence in 2020.  PARKING is available in the Stadium Car Park.

NO DRIVER STUDENT MAY TAKE OUT ANOTHER STUDENT IN THEIR CAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

Students may obtain their parents’ permission to be driven to and from school in another student’s car.  A written note from both students’ parents must be given to the VCE Coordinators before driving another student or siblings.

Students must inform the VCE Coordinators of their licence plate numbers and car make and colour.
