STEAMWORKS

What's been happening @Steamworks

On Tuesday 18 February, the students from France, experienced life through our Virtual Reality equipment.

Students explored environments such as; oceans, forests, the outer echelons of the International Space Station (ISS) and finished off with the ever popular, Beat Sabre.

A BIG, BIG thank you must be given to Alesia Jensen, Stuart Morrow, Alec Pullen and STEAM Captain, Peter Paladino for all their support with VR, drones and all things STEAM.

LEGO MASTERS

I was more equipped last week, I arrived with the six million batteries, required to run the Lego gear we had at STEAMWORKS on Tuesday.

I cannot believe how engrossed students become when they build and tinker with Lego equipment.

It was a joy to watch Tristan and Jenson work together to rebuild a machine and to see it move (with the aid of batteries). This is what mindfulness looks like in our young men.

STEAMQUEENS

STEAMQUEENS is up and running for 2020!  We saw a fantastic turnout for the Thursday lunchtime session, where students were informed about the program.

"The Academy for Enterprising Girls (AEG)"

For students who were not able to attend and witness how amazing this program is, I have included some information.

This free innovative entrepreneurship program, co-funded by the Australian Government, designed to cultivate young women’s skills in design thinking, technology and business skills.

This will be delivered via a self-paced online learning  program, featuring ten modules. There will also be over 100 in-person workshops in schools and communities, held in locations across Australia;

Cooper from 7A, informed me about another program, Girl Geek Academy.  We discussed how we could be involved within this program too.

A really productive STEAMQUEENS session, topped off by, Cooper 3D printing a pendant of an owl and some VR Beatsabre, to be match fit for the Beatsabre session, run by Mr Vallance on Monday.

Project Gamma Sign Up

  • ,Have you ever been interested in computers?
  • Ever wondered how they work?
  • Or maybe you want to learn how to program and how computer languages work.
  • Maybe you already know how to code, but haven’t found a new project to work on or to test your skills.

Whatever the case, I welcome you to join my class running on Monday lunchtimes in the STEAMWOKS Room, where I’ll unravel the mystery behind the machines that now run our daily lives and how they operate on the most basic level.

This course is open to all LHS students.  Interested  students, please fill in the form below:
