PFA news

The PFA are holding a day designed to help new families easily purchase second hand uniforms, and for existing families to recycle unneeded uniforms in good condition. Please ensure that all items are in good condition and on the current school uniform list. We will not be selling used socks or tights, but all other uniform (including sport uniform), school bags, lab coats and ties as on the current JMSS School Uniform list are welcome.

If you would like to sell uniform:

Bring any items to JMSS from 10.45am on Saturday the 14th December. We will provide a table for you to put your items on. Make sure that you have your pricing ready.

If you are wanting to sell uniform, you (or your representative) will need to attend the Uniform Sale. There is no opportunity for the school or PFA to sell the uniform on your behalf and forward funds to you.  If you cannot attend but are still keen to allow for the recycling of your uniform items you may wish to donate as below.

If you would like to Donate uniform:

The PFA are happy to take donations of used uniforms and sell them, with proceeds going to the Solar Panels fundraising effort. The school will be accepting donation of items at the office from Monday the 9th – Friday the 13th December during school hours.  In this case PFA will decide on pricing. Any unsold items in good condition will be listed on Sustainable School shop with all proceeds going to the PFA Solar Panels fund, items considered unsuitable for selling will be disposed of.

If you would like to buy uniform:

Come to JMSS between 11am and 1pm on Saturday the 14th of December. Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will have all uniform items and sizes available, but we hope that we will be able to assist!

If you have any questions please contact the PFA by email on pfa@jmss.vic.edu.au

STAVCON

The STAVCON Conference (Science Teachers' Association of Victoria) was held on the 29th of November and was open to all Science Teachers or anyone interested in Science.  We were at the expo on behalf of ESV (Emerging Sciences Victoria) spreading the word to all schools about the incredible program we have to offer.

We were recently gifted money from the Department of Education to enhance and increase the program in 2020. So, stay tuned for more amazing outcomes.

Model UN

On Wednesday 4th December all Year 10 students participated in a Model UN extra-curricular activity in which students role play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees.

Superhack

2019 SuperHack hosted by Melbourne University Electrical Engineering Club

From 30 Nov - 1 Dec, 11 students from JMSS represented the school at SuperHack hosted by Melbourne University Electrical Engineering Club. Every year, SuperHack invites girls from schools across Victoria to compete in teams to solve engineering design challenges based on a real industry problem. The following students worked in JMSS teams with mentors to tackle these challenges:

SachindiFernandoDY1Year 11
HimaSreelalDY5Year 11
NashitaBaigFL3Year 11
ZahraZubairWD4Year 10
GaganjyotKaurWood 7Year 10

SamanthaHooperBB1Year 10
MridulaS ThomasBB5Year 11
AliciaWongWD6Year 11
AlinaFukuyamaFL 7Year 11
HelenSengFL7Year 11

All teams showed “The JMSS Way” by stepping out of their comfort zone to work together and take the opportunity to learn new skills together. The Year 11 team of Sachindi, Hima and Nashita were particularly successful…

“I am pleased to inform you that our team won 2nd Place in the entire competition and as a result won prizes and got formal recognition... We were able to strengthen as a trio and pull through for not only ourselves but to make you and the school hopefully proud.

We are very pleased with our efforts and I speak on behalf of the other girls when I say that we went in completely blinded toward the competition however came through with such an amazing achievement in a field of which we were all inexperienced in. This opportunity has helped us enormously to open our eyes towards careers in STEM specifically Engineering and has given us a memorable experience and something that we can say we did out of our comfort zone.” Sachindi  Fernando, Year 11

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the event.
