On Friday 21st August Mr Chris Hazelman, Manager Ethnic Council of Shepparton, presented to Year 11 Foundation English.

Mr Hazelman is a former student of Shepparton High School.  It was interesting for students to learn about how Shepparton has slowly changed into a multicultural hub.

Year 11 Foundation English class has a diverse culture mix and the discussions generated were beneficial to all.

Mr Hazelman is currently working on various cultural awareness programs for disengaged youths and improving pathways. He would like to set-up programs to preserve cultures and is involved in forums at state and federal levels.

Mr Hazelman is an elected member of council. He is most proud of achieving the recognition of the ‘Traditional Indigenous Land Owners’ at the beginning of formal addresses within the Goulburn Valley.

Mr Hazelman said that it is important to accept each other’s differences and to celebrate Shepparton’s cultural diversity.
