Year 11 Leaders’

Final 2019 Report

Walking onto the school grounds for the first day of school this year, whilst it may not be as magical as the first time, five years ago, knowing that this was our first year in VCE was definitely a shock, where did all the time go?

From the burning hot summers in January, to the freezing winters, all the way to the brightly coloured spring, as our surroundings changed so did we alongside it. The experiences we’ve had throughout the year have helped change us and challenge us, but without our own effort, none of us would have ever evolved or progressed as much as we have.

As our last year of schooling approaches, we’d like for everyone to look back on the year and ourselves and be proud of how much we have achieved.

The Presentation Ball was one of the most iconic and defining experiences as Year 11 students this year.  Whether that be as a guest or debutante, it was such an amazing and unforgettable night. All the effort and hard work that led up to the evening had finally paid off, thanks to our teachers who helped prepare the amazing venue at Crown Casino and all the effort  our debutantes had gone through, trying to remember 6 or 7 dances. Of course, we hope that the experience will forever be remembered, as it’s not like anyone could forget it, with all the quirky and fun photos everyone took from the time we woke up, all the way to the end.

Since day one of this year, the 'Year 11 Peer Support  Leaders' worked hard with running introductory activities for the Year 7’s during their 'Community Time', to help them feel comfortable with the transition to high school. This was a great opportunity to get to know some of the new students to our school, but it was also a way for us to develop some of our leading and teaching skills, which all Year 11’s did wonderfully.

At the end of Term 1, we moved onto planning for this year’s Peer Support camp. It was awesome to see so many new people step up into leading positions during this planning stage, due to the confidence they have gained through being in the receiving position on this camp, but also through getting a taste of leadership, through helping the Year 7’s. All leaders continued to attend planning meetings in the lead up to the camp and in turn, created an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. The memories and friendships created on this camp, will forever be remembered and we would like to thank all students and teachers involved in this incredible event.

As Year 11 draws to a close, we are all looking forward to our final year at Lilydale High School. With so many camps, excursions and celebrations to come, this is sure to be our most memorable year yet. This will be our most challenging test to come, mentally, physically and emotionally. The end in sight, we'll get there! Whilst the future may be daunting, we are all doing this together and whilst our paths may not be the same, life will continue on. The end is only another beginning.

Before we sign off for the last time, we would like to say a massive THANK YOU, to our coordination team for this year, led by Ms Sayers, for the support and encouragement through this exciting and challenging year.  We all appreciate it more than you know.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity of being your 2019 Year 11 Captains'.
