MSS Students Virtual Mentoring Program
At the start of the year a group of brave JMSS students (Vihanga Maddumahewa, Gavin Li, Victoria Pham, Chen Wang, Joshua Radloff) were part of a pilot program funded by the Department of Education to make accessible the Mini Mathematician and Little Scientists Program run at JMSS to primary schools in regional Victoria.
Working with JMSS staff, these students helped to deliver fun activities designed to engage primary students in areas of science and maths such as Nanotechnology, Genetics, Fractals and Infinity. The students broadcast these sessions live from our ESV studio at the school and were able to talk directly with the primary students from various schools. It was a fantastic experience and both JMSS students and the primary school students learnt a great deal.
In semester 2 we have another groups of students undertaking this amazing challenge and over the next couple of weeks they will be sharing their experiences with you - so watch this space!!
Here is a lovely piece of feedback from
Riley Collis, a Year 10 student, Echuca College
The ESV was an amazing experience and a massive change from our usual time table, Monash had some fantastic facilities and even nicer of people to go along with it. I signed up for this experience originally to venture more into the field of science, and came back with more then I could of have hoped for .
