Junior Campus Library
Thank you to those parents who sent back overdue books for the start of Term 4. We received stacks and stacks of books that had been missing in action for a little while! If you know of any books lying around your house that might be looking to come home, please send them in with your children so they can be returned and enjoyed by some other children. This week we have endeavoured to start discovering some new (to them) book series through a "Look at This" project being completed by the Year 3 and 4 classes. In small groups the children need to find a book series that they may never have seen before and using the blurb and by reading a few pages, give an overview of the series, who is a good audience for it and a brief paragraph to "sell" the book to others who look at their posters. Not only is a great way for our students to learn about new books, it is also a great way for them to practice some persuasive writing skills and use the new laptops.
Next week we will also be doing a "blind book picking" with the classes to get them to try out new books. Our aim is that each student will take their book home and commit to reading the first few pages (for the littler people) or the first few chapters (for the less little people) and then make a decision about whether they would like to continue. When they return to library the week after we will ask them to give a small review explaining why they did or did not enjoy the book they blindly chose. A little bit of fun for everyone.
