Welcome to Term 4

It was lovely to catch up with all the children on the first day of term – I was quite struck by how much they had all grown over the course of Term 3!  We welcomed Jack Austin, Jack Addinsall, Phoebe Russell (all Year 5) and Nicholas Baulch (Year 3) at our first Assembly.  The children have also meet Ms Yu (teaching LOTE whilst Mrs Zuo is on Long Service Leave this term), Rebecca West (our new Gap Student from the UK) and Miss Fowler who is completing a teaching placement in Year 2, with Miss Ross, for the next three weeks.

The Year 5 students have settled back in, confidently and in a focused manner, after being split into two smaller classes for the final term and our Early Learning Piccino members have begun their transition to Prep for 2017 with visits this week from Prep teacher Mrs Kelly.

We also waved goodbye to three excited busloads of children as the Preps headed off on their Big Day Out to Halls Gap, Year 1 & 2 departed for Bridgewater coastal fun and Year 3 & 4 headed to Naracoorte to explore the caves.  I am looking forward to sharing their adventures on their return.

Myrniong Art Gallery Opening next Tuesday evening!

We are excited to announce that next week we will open our Annual Myrniong Art Gallery and you are all invited to this very special family event!  This year’s Gallery features art from all students, ELC to Year 5.  The focus is on the medium of photography, with subject matter including: “Nature up Close” for ELC – Year 1, “Playing with Shadows” for Year 2, “Forcing a Perspective” for Year 3 and 4 and finally a photographic display showcasing a variety of artistic creations by the Year 5s.  The Gallery will officially open from 6:15pm – 7:30pm on Tuesday, 11th October in the Myrniong Art Room.

P&F Junior School Pop-up Second Hand Uniform Shop Next Week

A reminder to families that two of our fabulous P&F reps, Felicity Satchell and Harpreet Moore, are helping families to source even more affordable uniform items, for those quickly growing children, through a pop-up Second Hand Uniform Shop at Myrniong next Wednesday and Friday afterschool.  If you are wishing to sell items that are in good condition, there is a system set up in the Myrniong Homestead family room, for dropping off and labelling clothes.  Sales will take place in the Meeting Room inside the Homestead.  See the P&F page for more information.

Lost Property Plea

We have started the term with an overflowing lost property.  Almost all items are named – however, they are hand-me-downs with the names of past students, so we don’t know who they belong to.  Could I please ask families to check that uniform items are named.

Prep 2017 Transition Documentation due

A reminder for our Early Learning Piccino families that the family section of the Prep 2017 Transition Document is due back to Frances O’Brien tomorrow.  This document helps facilitate your child’s transition to school and commences the partnership with your child’s Prep teacher for next year.

October is Walk to School Moth - Take Part!

Each October, the Victorian State Government promotes Walk (or ride), to School Month, as a VicHealth initiative.  Most years we have organised a walk from Senior School to Myrniong one morning to highlight Walk To School.  However, the SRC has agreed that, whilst this is fun, it doesn’t really promote regular walking!

This year we are aiming to do something a bit different in the hope that we establish some good walking habits.  The SRC propose that across the month of October, students walk part the way to school (this assists our bus travellers).

On arriving at school, students let the teacher on duty know they have walked all or part of the way and then they gain a point.  After a week’s worth of walks (they do not need to be on consecutive days), they earn a sticker.  After two weeks they will receive a certificate from VicHealth.

Ideas (so you can still visually supervise your child):

  • Drop your child off on Kent Road at the end of the Equestrian Zone
  • Drop your child off with a short walk to their bus stop
  • Undertake a short walk to the Senior School and then bus to Myrniong.

Mental Health Week 'Walk for Wellness' Opportunity

Early in Term Two we celebrated a fabulous Cultural Connections Day with the support of the Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation and last term the College celebrated Wellbeing Week.  Therefore, it is appropriate that we promote the following local community initiative (see the attached flyer):

The MI Fellowship, Winda-Mara Aboriginal Corporation and South West Healthcare invite you to celebrate Mental Health Week ‘Walk for Wellness’ on Thursday, 13th October 2016 from 11:00am - 3:00pm at Lake Hamilton Pavilion (Boat shed side of Lake).  Lunch is provided, along with activities & music.  For more information, please call

Junior Art

The clock is ticking down, the art works are ready to go and the teachers are organised for a big night of Art Show set up. The Myrniong Art Gallery will be open from 6:15pm - 7:30pm on Tuesday October 11th and will remain open for viewing until Friday October 14th. This year’s photography focus has allowed the children to not only create impressive photographs, but also allowed them to utilise some of the amazing technology that we have available within our school. It has also been a bit of a learning curve for myself, learning to keep track of, move, and print all of the photos. I am very excited for the student's hard work to be put on display and have their talents recognised. To see the invite please visit www.juniorarthamiltoncollege.weebly.com
