Associate Principal, Operations Report

Remembrance Day
School Vice Captains, Amy Waters and Alec Jagger, accompanied by Year 5 Leaders, Sybil Fleetwood and Stirling Cuming, represented The College at last Saturday’s Remembrance Day Ceremony in Hamilton.
On the ninety-ninth anniversary of the Armistace to end the First World War, they laid a wreath on behalf of all members of the School community.
During the short ceremony, we were reminded of the sacrifices made by those who have given their lives in the service of Australia in all conflicts, of the suffering endured by many who were scarred physically, mentally and emotionally by wars and conflicts and of the activities today by members of the Armed Services, particularly those acting in Peace-Keeping roles overseas.
Many thanks to Amy, Alec, Sybil and Stirling for representing us so well and to their parents who travelled into town to ensure they could do so.
Orientation Day
It was good to welcome many new 2018 students to The College this week.. Wednesday’s Orientation Day allowed new students entering Years 6-8 at the Senior School to get to know likely class-mates and to gain an awareness of the College grounds.. It was impressive to see the Middle Years Leaders, both those officially appointed and those simply demonstrating their own leadership qualities, show those new to the Middle Years Centre the ropes.
The School Captains had set the tone at Assembly earlier in the day. Claudia Roberts and Sami Zehir spoke of the way the things we do together – the rewarding and the challenging – develop our sense of community. They, and several others from Years 7-10, spoke of their first memories of arriving at the school. The message to those joining the school was simple: seek to make friends, get involved and try some new activities.
It’s a good message, isn’t it?
Art Staffing
We have welcomed Ms Lisa Addinsall back to the Art Department this week as she again replaces Miss Helen Reiher, who is enjoying the second half of her Long Service Leave. Mind you, I have noticed Miss Reiher’s continued presence at times this week as she has spent time with her VCE Studio Arts class, the students of which have their examination late this week.
We wish Miss Reiher well for her break and know her classes are in good hands with Ms Addinsall.
