House Cross Country

Well done to all the students who competed in the House X-C today and gave their best. A big thanks also to all the staff and students who ensured the smooth running and safety of the students doing their various jobs on the day. Special mention to Mr Clare and Mrs Williams who came in to assist on their day off! It was great to see lots of family and friends down there to support the students also.

Congratulations to Laidlaw who once again took out the overall aggregate in another sporting event!

2nd was Young, 3rd was Berry and 4th Learmonth. Young was victorious in the GIRLS’ aggregate however!

The top 5 of each age group will compete in the GD X-C competition on Monday 14th May which is in Portland this year. The team has been advertised and permission forms will be sent out via CARE MONKEY very soon. Training times will be Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes for team members. New school running tight shorts for girls are in stock also if you wish to purchase these to compete in.

Football

Yesterday saw our some of our footballers compete in the Division 2 Yr 9/10 Bob Templeton Shield. Competing against Bayview College, Heywood Secondary College and Casterton Secondary College, our strong team of Year 9 and 10 boys proved way too good for all opposition, defeating all the opposition sides comfortably in the round robin format.

Goal kickers on the day were Harry Robertson, Zac Cunningham, Magnus Howells, Max Green, Harry Bright, Hamish Cameron. Toby Vallance, Lachie Craig, Charlie Johnston, Nick Gunn, Connor Hunter, Jack Sharp, Fergus Roberts and Ben McCure

Consistently dominant players on the day included Harry Robertson (medal), Charlie Johnston, Nick Gunn, Connor Hunter, Jack Sharp, Fergus Roberts and Ben McCure; however, all team members played their part and with a strong group of Year 9 players we should look to go well in the Division 1 competition in 2019.

Thanks to Seth Fiegert for assisting on the day in his role as Football Captain. Well done to the nominated skipper for the day, Harrison Bright, on his great acceptance speech and leading the side well all day.

ICCES Athletics

The ICCES Athletics competition is fast approaching – Thursday 10th May – and the team members should be attending training sessions held with our coach Rohan Garfoot for the remaining sessions to ensure they give themselves and the team the best chance of success. Care Monkey permission forms also need to be filled out ASAP. New school running tight shorts for girls are in stock also if you wish to purchase these to compete in.

Boys' Hockey

The Open team played last Friday night and the cold evening obviously did not suit us!  We ended up 1-1 with Monivae in a disappointing display.  After an excellent start where we ran together and passed the ball impressively, we allowed the game to become scrappy and full of hopeful hits.  A strong finish saw us on top again at the end but Ferg Roberts’ goal was all we had to show for the night.  Hopefully, we can find our game again before next Sunday’s game against a reviving Demons.

College U16 Gold defeated Monivae, 4-0, in a close and competitive game. After initial rusty play our forward line started to have an impact in the attacking circle. Monivae pushed our defence, but thanks to Kellan Sander (goalie) and strong fullback, Clancy Munro and Harry Mould, Monivae were not able to break through. In the second half our attacking play improved and goals were scored by Isaac Hocking, Zac Cunningham, Nick Gunn and David Merrin. Best on ground were; Isaac Hocking, Jack Austin and Zac Cunningham.

Girls' Hockey

The A Grade Strikers have certainly cemented themselves as premiership favourites this season. The girls played an extremely attacking game against Coleraine Black winning 6-2. The goal scorers were Shayleigh Inglese, Izzy Musson, Chloe Anderson, Phoebe Russell and 2 goals from Hannah Russell. Better players were Ruby Cush and Chloe Russell.

The A Grade Thundersticks recorded a very scrappy 2-0 win against Coleraine Red. Despite having most of the attack the hockey ball just wouldn’t find its way to the back of the net. Gracie Austin finally got the radar on track to score two excellent goals. Claudia Roberts worked tirelessly on the wing and she was well backed up by Maddy Rowe and Miss Katie Budenberg.

The B Grade Blades struggled against a very strong Demons outfit going down 4-0. This is a very young side that will continue to improve throughout the season. Young up and coming players Charlotte Rowe, Bridget Delaney, Rosie Dophiede, Jorja Herman and Jordy Brown will ensure this side experiences success this year.

Despite going down 1-0 to Monivae, the B Grade Scorchers should be very proud of their efforts on Sunday. This team was down a player but certainly held their own against a very experienced outfit. Chloe Russell, Lucy Roberts, Lizzie Duver and Chloe Lyons all played excellent games.
