Swimming
For the first time, our elite swimmers have the opportunity to compete in the Victorian All Schools’ Swimming Association Carnival as part of the ICCES team. This event will be held at MSAC on Monday night and swimmers from all the best sporting associations across Victoria will be competing. Congratulations to the following students on being selected and we wish them well – Arielle Dickeson, Fergus Roberts, Lachlan Rees, Gabe Marshall and Lily Godde.
Football
As you should be aware by now, The Hamilton and Alexandra College has launched a Football Academy in collaboration with the Western Bulldogs Next Generation Academy for 14 – 16 year old students that show exceptional football talent and aspirations.
If your son or daughter is interested in participating in this exciting opportunity, please fill out the attached form and return it to the Director of Sport, Mr Alexander, by Monday 13 May.
College Magpies Results
Both the Under 16 and Under 13 teams have recorded victories in the first two rounds played in the HKJFA. Our numbers are strong for this season and there appears to be a lot of talent amongst the new and returning players in these sides. Better players for the Under 16s so far have included Fergus Roberts, Toby Vallance, Lachlan Rees, Charley Falla-Jones and Tom Hirst. For the Under 13s, consistent performers have been Tom O’Sullivan, Eli Hunter, Jake Tonissen, Jock Nicholls, Ben Vallance and Harry Austin.
ICCES Athletics
The ICCES Carnival was held today at Albert Park Lakeside stadium in Melbourne. A full report will appear in next week’s edition.

Cross Country Report
The 2019 cross-country season has started off well, with the House Cross Country on the 2nd of May having some very strong performances across all age groups. Well done to all athletes who finished first in their age group, as well as all athletes who ran their best on the day and earned points for their House. A special congratulations goes to the first place athletes whose times were very close to breaking records set by previous students. These students include Izack Mayfield, Niamh Sutherland and Jeremy Todd who were all within two minutes of the record times for their respective age groups. A big thank you to the staff and Mr Alexander for their organisation to ensure the event ran smoothly. Congratulations to Laidlaw, who were the overall winners with the scores from each House being:
1 – LAIDLAW - 795
2 – YOUNG - 736
3 – BERRY - 660
4 – LEARMONTH – 510
This year’s GD Cross Country will be held in Portland on Monday the 20th of May. The top 5 from each age group will go through. We encourage all athletes who placed in the top 5 students to go to GD as it is a great event and gives the College the best chance at success on the day.

Girls' Hockey Report
It was a mixed start to the season for our three sides. A grade had an outstanding first game defeating Monivae 7-0. With 9 Year 12s departing last year, the two A Grade sides combined to form one team for the 2019 season. New Co-Coach Hannah Russell will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this side. The goals were well spread with Gracie Austin, Chloe Andersen, Phoebe Russell, Maddi Mutch and Hannah Russell all finding the back of the net. Better players were Gracie Austin, Ruby Cush, Hannah Russell, Phoebe Russell and Chloe Andersen.
B Grade Blades were outclassed by the experienced Demons losing 7-0. New goalie Claire Cumming did an outstanding job saving numerous Demons’ shots. This side has lots of potential and we look forward to following their progress this year. Chloe Lyons, Emily Crawford and Jemima Bishop-Mowatt were amongst the better players.
B Grade Scorchers had a narrow loss to Monivae going down 2-0. College had much of the play but could not penetrate the Monivae backline. This is a very young team and new coach Charles Cain is looking forward to working with these young stars. Better players were Jordy Brown, Jorja Hermon and Daisy Henry.

Boys' and Under 16 Hockey
Round Two of the season was upon us very quickly and for most teams preparation had involved one training run and the previous week’s catch-up game. Much administrative focus was on ensuring everyone had negotiated the intricacies of the Hockey Victoria registration process and, by last Saturday morning, that was achieved. Many thanks to many parents for their perseverance and assistance.
Under 16 Red played the first game last Saturday morning and recorded a very meritorious 2-1 victory over Coleraine Red/Demons. The team had the bare eleven players for the game and no goalie, so keeping their opponents to one score was a fine effort. Eren Zehir scored both goals and led the way with a best-on-ground performance. He was well-supported by Harry Mould, Charley Falla-Jones, Matt Spence, Jemima Bishop-Mowatt and Kellan Sander. Ashleigh McNaughton and Tom Stratmann made some important interceptions in defence too. Coach Fred Martin can look forward to developing this team as the season unfolds.
Blue and Gold clashed in the second Under 16 match of the round. Gold recorded a fine 3-1 victory, although the result was in doubt until quite late. Isaac Hocking scored two goals for Gold and Tyler Butcher the third, while Ted Koch found the net for Blue. Isaac controlled the game superbly and was backed up by Lachie Rees, Clancy Munro, Alyssa Hocking and Harley Milich. Coach Julia Winter Cooke has this team performing very well and they created several fine forward moves: they could be a very good team by finals time. For Blue, Coach Ferg Roberts worked hard to bring his team-mates into the game and there were good contributions from Millie Davidson, Jake Andersen and Lucy Roberts. Some pleasing passages of play opened up at times and this team should also develop well as the season progresses.
The Open Men’s team played Coleraine Bulls on Sunday afternoon and, whilst they controlled much of the play, the boys rushed themselves both offensively and defensively. Offensively, this meant rushed shots at goal and a lack of patience and spread in the build-up; defensively, this meant failing to do the basics with respect to controlling the ball. Instead, we tried to use it before we had full control. Despite this, the team scored three goals and could have had a couple of others so there is plenty to build on for the next few weeks. Ferg Roberts scored two and Tane Nelson the third of our goals and Captain Reagan Simons led strongly by example. I could not fault the endeavour of the boys but we have some work to do on the basics!

Polocrosse Success
Continuing from the Australian Polocrosse Nationals held in Perth, September last year, Laura Michelmore, Ally Gray and Annabel Michelmore were selected in the under 16 girls Victorian team to perform at the Polocrosse World Cup. Held in Warwick, Queensland, the girls began their hike on the 19th of April and arrived a few days later to perform in the Barastoc state series, representing Victoria and supporting the Australian team. Annabel continued her role of captain from previous years and together along with many other girls from Victoria played to their best of their ability placing third overall in Australia, unfortunately losing to Queensland and New South Wales. Ally Gray and Annabel Michelmore are now currently eligible for the Under 21 women and Laura will step up as a valuable player in the under 16 girls. Congratulations to Laura, Ally and Annabel and we look forward to their continued success.
