On Monday, 13th May, all Junior School mums are invited to Myrniong for our Mother’s Day Assembly. Each class, from Prep to Year Six, will present a short item. The Assembly will commence at 2.30 pm in the Refectory, with tea and coffee provided for mums from 2.15 pm onwards.
Early Learning Centre - H.I.R.L. Visits
Our Early Learning Centre Piccinos have commenced their weekly visits to H.I.R.L. to explore the outdoors and touch base with nature. Each Friday, with gumboots and winter coats at the ready, they walk up from the Junior School and spend a good portion of the morning in the generous surrounds of H.I.R.L. These visits neatly sit with the Reggio philosophy of promoting active learning and encouraging the child’s social and emotional growth though hands-on activities and experiences that are meaningful to them. The Reggio Emilia environment inspires children. It is fun, stimulating, exciting, nurturing, safe and is always carefully curated to encourage creative thinking and expression.
NAPLAN 2019
Next Tuesday, our Year Three and Year Five students will sit the NAPLAN Writing test. The remaining tests will be spread throughout the week. With the exception of the Year Three Writing, all tests - Mathematics, Language Conventions and Reading - will be sat online by both year levels.
Winter Uniform
Monday, 13th May is uniform change over day at the Junior School. All students, Prep to Year Six, are to be in full winter uniform. A reminder that blazers must be worn to school. The Uniform Shop at the Senior Campus is open on Tuesday afternoons and throughout the day on Thursdays.
Division 5 Hockey
College took on Coleraine Black in a close match at Pedrina Park. The game finished 0-0, with College threatening the Coleraine goal with some frequency. Best players were Phoebe Alexander, Charlie Hindhaugh and Evie Templeton.
Division 4 Hockey
College Bandicoots took the points over a gutsy College Tassie Devils 5-1. The match was a willing contest, with both teams giving their all. Best on ground for Bandicoots were Izzi Adamson, Jake Butcher, Jono Stewart and Ciaran Nelson. Tassie Devils were best served by Tom Templeton, Darcy Fleetwood and India Ross.

House Cross Country
We are very grateful to members of the Parklands Golf Club who allowed the Junior School access to their course on Monday to hold the Junior School Cross Country Competition. The course this year was undulating and finished with a challenging rise. All students from Piccinos to Year Six should be commended for their efforts when running their race; it was so pleasing to see all of the hard work from PE lessons and home practice come to fruition with some incredible running efforts.
Many thanks to the many parents and grandparents who were able to come and support our students on the day. Your enthusiastic cheering certain added to the vibrant atmosphere of the morning.

Football
On Friday night the College Magpies U13 team had a chance to play under lights at Melville Oval against Kokoda Tigers. We all had a great time. First quarter was a bad quarter for us kicking only 1.1.7 to 0.4.4. At half time we held a good lead 2.4.16 to 0.4.4. The Boys were playing with more intensity and all aspects of the game were improved except we just needed to kick straighter. At three-quarter time they caught up a lot: 3.4.22 to 2.5.17. Andrew McCagh kicked a crucial goal to give us a lead going into the break. Fourth quarter was very tense. Tom O’Sullivan kicked a great goal to give us a further lead and then Harry Austin kicked the goal which sealed the game. College Magpies won 5.5.35 to Kokoda Tigers 3.5.23. In the club rooms we sang our song loudly and proudly, even though we didn’t know all of the words! Goal kickers for the game were Eli Hunter 2, Harry Austin 1, Tom O’Sullivan 1, Andrew McCagh 1. Best players were Ben Vallance, Jake Tonissen, George Huf, Austin Mayfield, Charlie Whitehead and Eli Hunter. A big thank you to Todd O’Sullivan, Johnny Austin and Nick Vallance for coaching and running.
