Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge - Early May Heroes
Educators cannot stress enough how important reading is for equipping young people to live well in our world. In fact, our English Department at the Senior School is investing time this year in developing a Community of Practice around this vital skill, working with external experts (more about this next week). One easy way for parents to support their children with this skill is to read to, with and in front of their children. Another, is to encourage them to participate in opportunities, such as the reading challenge.
This week I have arbitrarily selected 15 as the point at which to celebrate reading success. These amazing students are currently listed as having read 15 or more titles:
Phoebe Alexander 16
Elsie Brown 54
Tommy Brown 51
Johnny Fenton 23
Harley Kearns 18
Rhiognach McClure 20
Sophie Merrin 20
Rupert Merrin 15
Millie Mould 15
Sophie Satchell 26
Will Satchell 18
Sonny Shepherd 20
Poppy Shepherd 21
Evie Templeton 16
National Simultaneous Story Time:
This annual event is fast approaching. We will be sharing the wonderful Alpacas With Maracas by Matt Cosgrove at both Junior and Senior Schools and with the community through the sharing organised by Mrs Milich and her student readers. Watch this space for further details.
