Carols By The Lake

and

Melbourne Zoo's 24 Days of Christmas

'Tis the festive season - and we have been getting into the festive spirit in the Performing Arts Department! The Brunswick Voices and Chamber Voices choirs returned to Carols By The Lake (for the third year in a row) and both the choir and Combo Contempo performed as part of Melbourne Zoo’s 24 Days of Christmas.

Moreland City Council’s Carols By The Lake features several local performing artists as well as the Moreland City Band. This year we supported the soloists by performing 13 songs, as well as leading all the community sing-a-longs and featuring in several of our own. This is Moreland’s main festive event with over 3000 people in attendance.

This was the first year we have been invited to perform at the Zoo and it was a great way for our students to end the year. It was an opportunity for the students to support each other’s performances as well as a celebrate the year's achievements.

Combo Contempo was led my Marc Matthews and featured several students performing improvised solos within pieces as well as working with some of our BSC singers. Brunswick Voices performed a wide range of pieces and carols and also had the big man in red – Santa – come along and help lead a song.

I am so proud of how our BSC students conduct themselves at these large community events and I look forward to many more performances next year. Well done to all our Performing Arts students on all the excellent performances this year.

Wishing all our BSC Performing Arts families a wonderful holiday and look forward to all our Performing Events in 2020.

I really love participating in both Chamber and Brunswick Voices. Its always really great to work with people in different year levels, and then get to do concerts with them. This year Chamber Voices has participated in the Victorian Schools Music Festival, which also had work-shopping involved in it. Both choirs participated in Chamber Concert and the Performing Arts Gala, as well as Carols By The Lake. I got the opportunity to also do scripted work at Carols this year, and that was really good for my performance skills.

Carols By The Lake is such a beautiful experience. I loved singing the carols with my friends and family to celebrate the Christmas season and end of an awesome year. Singing Somebody to Love earlier in the year was also great because it certainly sounded better as choir than me belting it out when I’m home alone! I hope I can do chamber next year and become more involved with Brunswick Voices. Thank you Emily for being such an amazing teacher and helping me become more confident with my singing and just in general. Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

I LOVE Choir! I love the sense of community and working with people across all year levels. Its been a great opportunity to see everyone's talents and how far everyone has progressed. There are also great opportunities for people have solo parts and showcasing everyone’s skills. I also love how we can have a laugh if we all mess up. Its so enjoyable and fun!

Carols By The Lake was an awesome experience. It was really fun to sing ensemble songs as well as singing back up and harmonies to featured singers. SomeBody To Love earlier in the year was also really great because it was fun to sing alongside a rock band and do a more edgy-rock style with the choir. I also like singing at Royal Melbourne Hospital because it was interesting to learn about how listening and playing music is good for you and how music theapy helps sick or injured people. Choir is overall really run because we meet new people and hang out with people who like music and the performing arts.

Choir has been a great experience for me because it means I get to make new friends who also have the same interest as me. This also meant that I got to be involved in Carols which was a really fun experience. We performed in front of a lot of people and learnt lots of new songs.
