A Message from Sickbay
ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION POLICY
The Administration of medication policy explains to parents/carers, students and staff the processes Kismet Park Primary School will follow to safely manage the provision of medication to students while at school or school activities, including camps and excursions.
If a student requires medication, Kismet Park Primary School encourages parents to arrange for the medication to be taken outside of school hours. However, Kismet Park Primary School understands that students may need to take medication at school or during school activities. To support students to do so safely, Kismet Park Primary School will follow the procedures set out in this policy.
If medication is required during school hours. Parents/carers MUST arrange for written advice about required medications to be provided in a Medication Authority Form.
For most students, Kismet Park Primary School will store student medication at the sick bay (unless otherwise approved by Kismet Management).
We do not permit students to carry medications on their person or within their school bags. Exceptions to this may apply in certain circumstances.
Medication Authority Form copies can be requested from the school office or sick bay or downloaded from our website.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Kismet Park Primary School will not in accordance with Department of Education and Training policy, store or administer analgesics such as aspirin and paracetamol as a standard first aid strategy as they can mask signs and symptoms of serious illness or injury – painkiller medication is managed in the same way as any other student medication and if a student requires painkillers to be administered during school hours the parent/carer must provide the medication and a medication authority form.
SAFE TO SCHOOL
Driving around school zones
Keeping our kids safe as they get to and from school is everyone’s responsibility.
As kids come to and from school it’s important for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to be aware and take extra care during these busy times. Even a small reduction in speed could save a child’s life.
To help keep our kids safe, it’s important for drivers to:
- watch out for pedestrians and be aware that young children can be unpredictable and difficult to see
- give cyclists plenty of space
- slow down in school speed zones during school times
- be extra cautious around schools.
Kids can stay safe by:
- learning about road safety – resources include Kids on the Move(External link) and Bike Ed
- practicing crossing the road with parents.
