Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to Term Three.

It has been a busy start with swimming lessons for Years ¾-6, NAIDOC week activities and PEAC testing for year 4.

Thank you to staff involved with organising a range of NAIDOC activities which culminated in a performance by Gina Williams and Guy last Thursday. The show shared the richness of the Noongar language through song. Our AIEO, Ms Maciel, also organised a lunch for our first nations families after the event.

In week three our cross-country team will head over to North Fremantle on Thursday to compete in the annual schools’ cross-country event. Our thanks to Ms Foster for her time in training and promoting the sport. All the best to our team of students from years 3-6.

The school will hold its Open Evening on Thursday between 5:00pm-6:30pm. Rooms will be open for families to come through to see samples of work undertaken in Semester One.

Our wonderful P&C has organised food if you plan to stay a while.

At 6:00pm Mr Kaloczy our Music Specialist has encouraged a number of students, who play an instrument or sing, to perform a sample of what they are learning either under private tuition or at school.

As the weather at present is looking likely to be damp, the undercover area will be quite busy.

An area close to the stage has been put aside to allow students and parents to sit and listen to students performing on the stage.

In the library there will be a display of Ashton Scholastic products that families can buy. Books can also be donated to the library. Room 14 will be open to display work in Italian.

There are vacancies for our school Board. If you are interested in applying, please make contact with myself, Ms Tingle or any of the current parents on the Board. Daniel Gretton [Chair],

Lee McIntosh, Teresa Matassa, Megan Banks and Russell Nicholls.

Information packs are also available from reception.

The Board meets on Thursdays at 4:30pm, twice a term.

Applications closed recently for Hazel Orme Community Kindergarten in 2024 with a very positive response. Applications for Pre-Primary -Year 6 though sought, of which can still be submitted throughout the year.

Information on a Science incursion will come home today. Please add this to your term planner. This will be on Wednesday 16 August.

Another event to add to the calendar is a Music concert being organised by Mr Kaloczy for Friday 19 September.

With the current interest in the World Cup currently under way across Australia and New Zealand the school has organised a design a soccer ball competition. Entries are due in by the end of week three. We have three prizes to give out. There is also an opportunity to win 50 soccer balls for the school through a national competition which we have nominated for as well.

The school adopted Canada as they were playing a game in Perth but now after the 3/2 loss by Australia last night, it may come down to Australia having to beat Canada on Monday evening in Melbourne to progress to the next stage of the competition.

With the start of term, could parents do a quick check that items of clothing have clear labels so we can return them if they are misplaced?

Thank you also to the P&C Uniform Service convenor, Mrs Ulyett, for the great job of running the service for our families.
