Principal's Report

Principal’s report 14.08.23

Back in April I foresaw that a trailblazing group of students would be our first cohort to select the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) in 2024. It gives me great pleasure to inform our school community that we will indeed be launching our IB program next year with a strong cohort of 20 students ready to take on this challenge. This is an exciting step in our school’s development that will be of great benefit to all students. Teachers will benefit from a wide range of training provided by the International Baccalaureate Organisation which will help support their teaching in all year levels and all courses. The IBDP strongly aligns with our school philosophy of supporting a broad based, holistic education which supports the development of students’ life skills alongside their academic education.

This term has also seen students taking risks in a wide range of endeavours, be that on the stage in our amazing musical ‘Freaky Friday’, on the slopes of Mount Buller at Snow Camp, or through participation in one of the wide range of extra-curricular events. These events, in their varied forms, give students opportunities to step outside their comfort zone and provide opportunities for failure. Failure, whether it’s falling over on the snow, or forgetting a line in a musical rehearsal, provide opportunities to learn and to grow. It is through these small missteps that people become resilient and learn to keep going even when something is difficult.

Taking calculated risks challenges people and feels uncomfortable. However, by taking these steps that people can learn more about themselves and grow in confidence. With each new challenge people become more confident in their abilities, more flexible in their approaches and better leaders. Not all risks will pay off in the way you expect, but all of them will teach you something new about yourself and help you to develop new skills. Throughout the rest of the year I encourage everyone in our school community to try at least one new thing, that challenges and stretches you.
