ARTS

Across Fisher we will be doing a rotation of the Arts. This semester in the Arts we are learning about movement, media conventions and platforms, rhythmic patterns, movement sequences and painting techniques. 

Drama: On the move

Learning Intention: 

  • we are learning to demonstrate self-control.
  • we are learning to communicate using facial and body expressions.
  • we are learning to improvise through acting.
  • we are learning to create characterisation.

In this unit, students will: 

  • explore the relationships between characters by using stereotypes
  • demonstrate an understanding of physical theatre by using movement to work physically in drama and devise a performance
  • create movement to portray character intentions and relationships
  • work collaboratively to create action and atmosphere
  • design and create a simple set to support the performance of devised production.
  • develop skills and techniques of voice and movement to create character, mood, and atmosphere and focus on dramatic action.

Achievement Standards:

Students explain how dramatic action and meaning is communicated in drama they make, perform and view. They explain how drama from different cultures, times and places influences their own drama making. Students work collaboratively as they use the elements of drama to shape character, voice and movement in improvisation, playbuilding and performances of devised and scripted drama for audiences.

Dance: Sports themed dance: Having a ball

Learning intentions:

  • We are learning to identify, analyse and apply elements of dance for a specific purpose and effect

Students will:

  • identify, analyse and apply elements of dance for a specific purpose and effect 
  • recognise and use safe dance practices when improvising movement, choreographing, rehearsing and performing 
  • structure and perform movements in a sequence that uses the elements of dance to communicate meaning 
  • rehearse, develop, combine and demonstrate fundamental movements skills with elements of dance to refine technical and expressive skills 
  • respond to stimulus through improvising movement 
  • represent physical objects and props through abstract movement 
  • perform dance, combining expressive and technical skills with elements of dance to communicate ideas
  • identify and justify the thinking behind choices they have made 
  • evaluate the effectiveness of their performance against given criteria

Media Arts: Media Minefield

Learning Intention:

  • We are learning about cyber safety.
  • We are learning about digital media. 

In this unit:

  • Students will plan, record and edit a podcast episode about the importance of cyber safety and strategies to keep safe online. 
  • Students will develop understanding of how media conventions and platforms can influence, shape and control thinking
  • Students will experiment with social media concepts based on community and student audience
  • Students will consider how point of view can be controlled by production and use of media technologies
  • Students will plan, create and produce media artworks to share important information using responsible media practices
  • Students will work collaboratively using technologies to make media artworks for specific audiences and purposes, considering viewpoints in improving and responding to work.

Achievement Standards:

Students will describe how media arts works created across cultures, times, places and/or other contexts communicate ideas, perspectives and/or meaning. They describe how media arts are used to continue and revitalise cultures. Students use media languages, and media technologies and production processes to construct representations in media arts works for specific purposes and audiences. They present their work in informal and/or formal settings using responsible media practice.

Visual Arts: Painterly Portraits

Learning intentions:

  • We are learning about portraits.

In this unit, students will:

  • identify and describe features of viewed artwork.
  • use painting techniques to express personal views.
  • use conventions to plan an artwork.
  • demonstrate a range of painting techniques and explain how their choices of techniques represent their ideas.  

Achievement Standards: 

Students will explain the use of elements, concepts and/or conventions in arts works they create and/or experience. They describe how the arts communicate ideas, perspectives and/or meaning across cultures, times, places and/or other contexts. They describe how the arts are used to continue and revitalise cultures. Students use subject-specific knowledge, elements, concepts, conventions, materials, skills and/or processes to create works that communicate ideas, perspectives and/or meaning. They demonstrate safe practices. They present and perform their arts works in formal and/or informal settings.

Music:  Creating a Parody

Learning intentions:

  • We are learning explore elements of music
  • We are learning to create 

In this unit, student will:

  • demonstrate understanding of the form and structure of songs
  • discuss process for writing lyrics
  • collaboratively generate new ideas to create new lyrics to known music
  • preform to an audience 

Achievement Standards: 

Students explain how elements of music are manipulated in music they compose, perform and/or experience. Students demonstrate listening and aural skills when composing and performing. Students use elements of music and compositional devices to compose music that communicates ideas, and when practising music for a performance. They perform music in formal and/or informal settings.
