TECHNOLOGY

This semester our focus in Design and Technology is on engineering and sustainability.

Design and Technology: Marvellous Moving Machines

Learning intentions:

  • We are learning about seeking solutions through engineering.

In this unit, students will:

  • understand the impact of their solutions.
  • need to see the solution through legal, ethical and sustainability lenses
  • use systems thinking to explore and understand the component parts of simple moving inventions and how those parts interact with force
  • investigate characteristics and properties of a range of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment and evaluate the impact of their use
  • identify and explain simple machines and their role in mechanical systems
  • understand how simple machines transform force into motion.

Achievement Standards:

Students will explain how people design products, services and environments to meet the needs of communities, including sustainability. Students will develop project plans, including production processes, and select technologies and techniques to safely produce designed solutions.

Plastic Free Parties:

Promotion and Product

Learning intentions:

  • We are learning about the environmental challenges of single-use plastics.

In this unit, students will:

  • consider the benefits of current and emerging sustainable materials
  • explore products made by innovative South Australian individuals and businesses
  • understand how competing factors influence material choice
  • understand how to determine if a material or product is sustainable
  • use appropriate technologies and techniques safely and correctly to produce designed solutions
  • recognise the potential impact of promoting and making sustainable choices.

Achievement Standards:

They will explain how the features of technologies impact design decisions and create designed solutions. They will select and justify design ideas and solutions against criteria and communicate their design ideas to an audience using technical terms and graphical representation techniques.
