Discovery Learning Thrives at Holy Cross

Holy Cross has experienced another week of dynamic Discovery Learning, where children in Prep to Year Two embarked on an exploration of their personal and local histories. Through engaging activities, the children shared family stories, constructed a detailed model of the Gisborne train station, created expressive artworks representing their identities, and authored inspiring books.

Next time you have a chance, we warmly invite you to come and take a walk through our Prep to Year Two spaces. You'll be amazed to see the wonderful learning our children have achieved.

Exploring Teen Numbers in Prep

Earlier this week, our Preps impressed our visitors with their grasp of teen numbers. They confidently identified teen numbers, including the ones that follow unconventional naming patterns such as 11 and 12. Additionally, they demonstrated their skill in identifying the numbers that preceded and followed various randomly selected teen numbers. Most notably, the children displayed their proficiency in representing and comparing teen numbers using a range of materials, drawings, and symbols. Keep up the fantastic learning, Preps!

Maths Strategies at Home: 'Goodies and Workies'

"Goodies and Workies" is one of the strategies our Year 3 children have adopted (and named) to assist them in learning their multiplication facts. By reviewing their existing knowledge and incorporating repetition with instant feedback, they have been utilising this effective method to learn multiplication facts. The strategy is also versitile, as it can be applied to other curriculum areas such as spelling and word meanings, making it a valuable tool for overall learning.

Check out the video to see "Goodies and Workies" in action as it can be another simple way to support your child's learning at home.

Seesaw

At Holy Cross, we place great importance on fostering strong partnerships with parents and families, and we are committed to enhancing communication regarding our children's learning. To achieve this goal, we are improving our use of the Seesaw app as a tool to communicate children's progress. Through Seesaw, parents can access snapshots and posts that provide insights into their children's learning journeys, keeping them closely connected. Stay tuned for updates!
