Principal's Report
Katherine Bolton - Acting Principal
It is necessary for me to start this report by saying a big thank you to everyone in the MPS community for making me feel so welcome. It truly is an honour to be Acting Principal at your beautiful school. Everywhere I go, I am met with big smiling faces and warm greetings. I have visited every classroom over this week and I am so impressed with all the fantastic teaching and learning that I am witnessing. We have so many exciting things coming up in the next few weeks, it really is a great time to be at MPS!
On Thursday 31st August, 7pm-8pm we will be hosting a Prep information evening in the Early Learning Centre. Families of future preps already enrolled and families seeking to learn more about our school and what we have to offer are encouraged to attend. The information evening will include a presentation followed by tea and coffee. Families will have the opportunity to speak with current teachers and community members to ask any questions they may have about us and our community.
I am very excited to announce that Chelsea Ryan will begin working with us as our new School Counsellor beginning on Monday. She will be working on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays and we're looking forward to welcoming her to our school community. We will inform you next week on how you can access her services.
On Monday 21st August, we will be celebrating book week with special whole school literacy activities. Students are invited to come dressed up as a character from a book they love. We will have a parade starting at 9:10 in the undercover area. Families are very welcome to come and watch the parade. Students with impressive costumes will be given a raffle ticket and go into the draw to win a $15 Book Fair voucher. Students will also be involved in a house group activity where they will share a book with their house group and complete a related task.
Our amazing Parent Association has been fund raising for lots of different purposes. One of these fundraisers raised money to buy new school library books. We have used some of this money to purchase lots of book from 'The Children's Book of the Year Awards' shortlist. Student leaders are planning to read these books and do activities with all students as part of our book week celebrations on Monday. These books will be proudly placed in our library in the next few days for all students to enjoy.
Today was our first breakfast club and it was a roaring success! It was wonderful to see so many students and families coming in to share breakfast together. A reminder that breakfast club is free and anyone is welcome to join. We hope to see lots of smiling faces again next Thursday morning, 8:30-8:50 in the STEM lab.
A reminder to parents/guardians using the drop off parking zone in the mornings, please remember that it is a Drop off zone only, not parking. There are mornings that this zone is used for parking and vehicles are empty. Please be mindful that this causes more disruption to drop off and parking.
We have had a number of reports of students with headlice across the Junior, Middle and Senior areas. Could Parents/Carers please check your child's/children’s hair and treat accordingly if required.
Please find attached information on headlice and how to treat.
Warm regards,
Katherine Bolton
