2023 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. This is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement.

The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open during August. A link to the survey will be sent to all families via a Compass Newsfeed.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages. Survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through annual reporting. Please speak to Fran Mullins, Assistant Principal, if you would like more information.

Policy Summaries

Complaints

Our Complaints Policy provides an outline of the complaints process at Eltham High School so that students, parents and members of the community are informed of how they can raise complaints or concerns about issues arising at our school. We value open communication with our families and are committed to understanding complaints and addressing them appropriately. We aim to ensure that all complaints and concerns regarding Eltham High School are managed in a timely, effective, fair and respectful manner.

Personal Property Policy

Link: Personal-Property-Policy.pdf (elthamhs.vic.edu.au)

Eltham High School encourages staff and students not to bring items of value to school, as damage to personal property brought to school is the responsibility of the owner.

The Department of Education and Training does not have insurance for personal property of staff, students and visitors. Eltham High School does not take responsibility for items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school or during all school activities, including camps and excursions.

Student Mobile Phone Management

Link: Student-Mobile-Phone-Management-Policy.pdf (elthamhs.vic.edu.au)

The Victorian Government views the safe and responsible use of digital technologies, student safety and wellbeing, and the development of social skills and positive behaviour as paramount. From Term 1 2020, students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours.

Opportunities for students at recess and lunchtime to communicate with each other face-to-face or be involved in physical activity are valued over and above the use of mobile phones and social media. Eltham High School’s Student Mobile Phone Management Policy outlines the requirements of the Minister for Education relating to students using mobile phones during school hours.
