Rapid Ascent - The Redback Mountain Bike Stage Race
Rapid Ascent - The Redback Mountain Bike Stage Race
A few St Philip's staff and students competed in the recent 4-day, 6-stage mountain bike event in Alice Springs.
There were two event categories, competitors could race in this year; the A-Line (riding 178km over 6 days), or the B-Line (110km).
Past student Tom Stockwell (2022) took on the A-Line once again, coming 1st in his category and 2nd overall in gender position. He completed the 6 stages in a fast time of 8.5 hours.
Current student Elise Harvey (Yr 9) competed in the B-Line, taking out 1st in her category and 4th overall in gender position. Elise completed the 4 stages in just over 7.5 hours. Elise also had some of her family out there (Father - Mark / Brother - Braddon) which was awesome to see.
Dave Atkins was racing with his son Mac in the B-Line and both got podium finishes for their categories - Dave Atkins 1st place and Mac Atkins 2nd place. Mac is only 11 years old and was racing Under 18s! It was a family occasion with Dave Atkins' partner, Georgina Landy, also coming 1st in her category in the A-Line event and 3rd overall in the females for A-Line.
Emma Shearer came in 1st place in her B-Line category as well as 2nd overall in the B-Line event - completing the 6 stages in just under 6.5 hours.
It was also great to see James Tudor (Forktail Films) out on course photographing some of the event - thanks!
