Principal's Message

Knowing ~ Caring ~ Connecting

Dear Parents & Carers,

The change in weather helped get our students up and running at the Athletics Carnival on Friday. There is nothing like the cool southerly winds to get students running, jumping and participating in a variety of field events. Several school records were broken and lots of ribbons won. I’d like to thank Davey Tudor and the rest of the staff who helped to run the events and support the students in the House areas. Congratulations to Griffiths House for winning on the day.

It was a very special evening last Friday to celebrate the completion of the foundations for our Discovery Centre. The foundations were blessed by our Chaplain, Pastor Sarah Pollitt and opened by our Chair, Bruce McKay. At the same time, on the oval our Family Fun Night was underway with live music, beautiful weather and a warm atmosphere. It was great to see a multitude of children enjoying the free jumping castle, bungee run, popcorn and ice cream. Thanks to Paul Bailey, Lisa-Marie Burgoyne and Joey Klarenbeek for making it happen.

At our Student Leaders’ Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, we farewelled our Year 12 leaders and welcomed our new Year 11 leaders. The new group is full of enthusiasm and ideas, and it’s wonderful to see students making the most of the opportunities to develop their skills in this area. We also used this event to celebrate the Semester 1 subject success of our Year 11s as they were away on their Aspire program during the Academic Assembly.

After school today we are hosting the Round Square Cup sports festival. It will be a fun-filled afternoon with student and staff teams competing in a variety of different sports and activities. The flags and uniforms generated by the teams is sure to be a highlight of the competition. I must commend the outgoing Round Square captains, Lilly Bloomer and Naomi VanDenBerghe for their excellent leadership throughout the year. It’s wonderful to have exchange students back in our school cohort and learning about different cultures and educational learning styles.

Next week, we are all looking forward with great anticipation to the musical, We Will Rock You, with public performances on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Tickets are selling fast and if you don’t want to miss out, I suggest you get online and buy your tickets before it is too late: https://events.humanitix.com/we-will-rock-you-school-edition

Finally, we have passed the halfway mark of the term and our Year 12 students are now relieved of their leadership responsibilities so they can focus on their studies. The non-examinable subjects will finish in four weeks leaving students to concentrate on their exams in November. It’s important to support our senior students at this critical time in their journey, and keep communication lines open with subject teachers.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let your child’s subject teacher and Head of House know so we can ensure the best outcome for this wonderful cohort.

Kind regards,
