Principal's Message

Bree Harvey-Bice

Dhanganna, Hello, Rojbash,

As we delve into the heart of Term 3, Armidale Secondary College is an extremely busy place and our students and staff have been achieving some incredible things.

Firstly, I would like to apologise and acknowledge that I got it wrong in sending out an email to the school community regarding appropriate communication. Whilst I stand by my conviction that as a society and a school we need to communicate in more respectful ways where the opinions of all can be drawn on to build a better school and future, I acknowledge that there were two sentences in the email that could have been better worded and have caused offence to the original anonymous poster and some members of our community. I apologise to those who took offence at my words. My intent in addressing the anonymous post was to protect our students, staff and community. My offer remains open for any student to speak with myself or any of the school team about their concerns in an appropriate manner or to use the forum of their peers through the Student Leadership Council or Senior Student Leadership Team to raise issues of concern.

Our students continue to amaze us with their dedication and enthusiasm for learning. Our Year 12 HSC students are just wrapping up their HSC Trial examinations and moving into that very stressful but ultimately rewarding time of their secondary schooling where the HSC practical and performance submissions are due. A huge thank you to our dedicated staff who are working on weekends and after school with their classes to ensure that the final touches are on those Visual Arts and Industrial Tech Major Projects, that the Drama Group Performances and Individual Projects and Music Performances all come together. Good Luck year 12, may all your hard work and dedication pay off.

In the realm of sports, our athletes have been shining on the field, demonstrating not only their athletic prowess but also their commitment to teamwork and sportsmanship. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our teams for their remarkable performances, reflecting the values we hold dear at Armidale Secondary College Respect, responsibility and resilience.

Congratulations to Sophia-Rose Markham of year 11 who was presented at this week’s assembly with her Art of Smart Top 10 Trailblazers award. Sophia-Rose was ever humble and very surprised when at the Top 50 Awards ceremony she was actually announced as making the Top 10. Sophia is a great role model for her fellow students and dedicated to serving her community. Well done Sophia!

Our dedicated teaching staff continues to be the driving force behind our ongoing success. Their unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds is truly commendable. Through maintaining open lines of communication together, we can provide the best support for our students' holistic development.

NAPLAN results have been returned to the school and families in year 7 and 9 should have the results in their letter boxes already. For the first time this year, The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) have introduced proficiency standards with student achievement now shown against 4 levels of proficiency and replacing the previous 10 band structure. The new proficiency standards of Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support provide schools with a valuable set of data allowing us to target support more effectively to individual students.

In closing, I want to express my gratitude to the Armidale Secondary College community for your continued support of our school. It is through our collaborative efforts that we foster an environment of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience and continue to work together in shaping Our Learning. Our Future.

Wishing you all a productive and fulfilling term ahead.
