St. Anne's Feast Day ~ July 26th
This Wednesday is the Feast of St Joachim and St Anne, the parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus. St Anne & Joachim are the patron saints of grandparents. Our sister school St. Anne's College will celebrate their feast day on Wednesday, July 26th at St. Mel's Church.
World Day of Grandparents & the Elderly is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of July close to the feast of St. Anne & St Joachim. This day was first introduced by Pope Francis in 2021 to acknowledge and celebrate the gift of the wisdom and experience of generations before and the importance of preserving and passing on the roots of all people.
MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS FOR THE THIRD WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY
23 July 2023
Pope Francis said in his message ~
The World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly is meant to be a small but precious sign of hope for them and for the whole Church. I renew my invitation to everyone – dioceses, parishes, associations and communities – to celebrate this Day and to make it the occasion of a joyful and renewed encounter between young and old.
We will celebrate our Grandparents & Special Friends during Book Week this year on Friday, August 25th with our annual Special Friends Day. More details to come.

WORLD YOUTH DAY ~ Our pilgrims from across Sandhurst leave this week for W.Y.D. We here at St. Mel’s have ZOE HAMILTON in our minds and hearts as she takes us with her on this journey of faith and life. May this experience inflame Zoe with love and goodness and all she is open to receiving. God bless Zoe and her travels. Zoe is a past student of St. Mel's Primary School.
