Kitchen & Garden

PUMPKINS, PUMPKINS. PUMPKIN!

During our Kitchen classes over the last fortnight, we have been using pumpkin from our kitchen garden as our hero ingredient!

We used pumpkin to make a savoury dish (pumpkin soup) and a sweet dish (pumpkin muffins). Both ways were delicious! Some students were hesitant at first to try the pumpkin muffins, however, after the first bite all I could hear was "These are delicious!"

To accompany our pumpkin soup, we made some focaccia bread with some fresh herbs such as rosemary, from our kitchen garden. We also brushed some garlic and olive oil over the top and finished it off with a sprinkle of salt! Delizioso!

The students enjoy assisting when it is time to plate up our delicious food after all their hard work in the kitchen!

Preps practising their chopping skills!

The prep students have been practising their chopping skills this week by chopping up some pumpkin and carrots. They remembered to use their bear claws to grip the pumpkin and carrot and keep their fingers away from the knife!

You would have received an email or seen a Seesaw post about volunteering in our Kitchen Garden Program. We welcome and appreciate anyone who is able to assist in our Kitchen Garden program! Please email us and let us know your availbility if you are willing and able to assist in any way:

 Garden Stewardship

This fortnight in the garden we are learning all about stewardship and how we can take care of our school garden.

Our Preps had fun discovering their favourite things in the garden - flowers, feathers, leaves and seeds. We also took care of our school animals. Feeding our goats apples and our chickens sunflower seeds.

The nasturium leaf has a fun water proof characteriestic that makes water collect in big water drops.

We had a great lesson discovering this natural feature ourselves.

Happy Gardening.
