YR 7

Maths Problem Solving

Today in maths class the Year 7s were engaged in a problem solving session. They worked with a partner to solve a range of problems, using a variety of different strategies. The girls had lots of fun applying their problem solving strategies to work out possible solutions. Isabell and Adok had this to say about class today.

“Today in maths we did a problem solving session. We did 3-4 hands on tasks with a partner and used our books to show working out. One of the tasks we did was called "Snail Trail", which was where we had to work out how long it would take for the snail to get to the top of the 11 metre well. The snail would travel 5 metres upwards in 1 hour, but would then rest, and slide 3 metres downwards. We worked out that it would take 4 hours for the snail to get to the top of the well. We had heaps of fun.”

Stations of Mary Artwork

During Term 2 the Year 7 cohort were asked to create a piece of artwork about Mary, the Mother of Jesus, to display in the Ursula Frayne Chapel. The students were encouraged to use colours, symbols and designs that reflect their understanding of the Stations of Mary. They included a short blurb with their artwork to express what Mary represents in Jesus' story, and what she reflects in the world today.
