Prep News

What a fantastic Term of learning it has been for the Preps!

As part of our inquiry into Place we have taken on the role of researchers and have been going on weekly discovery walks around Elwood to explore our central idea:

People care for and take care of places that are special to them.

Through these walks the Preps have developed a special bond to the natural environment in Elwood, especially our canal system. They have been inspired to take action and created posters to display around the community, to explain the negative effect of littering on the natural environment and animals.

In Literacy we enjoyed a visit from Matt Glover, who taught us the importance of book making. We learnt that everyone can make books and started creating our own right away! We have also been working hard in our phonics time and now know all the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they can make. How clever are we!

We have enjoyed many hands-on activities in numeracy this term. We explored the importance of using hands as tools in our journey as mathematicians, and took on the role of researchers to explore how our hands can help us solve problems and count. We also learned about collections and practiced creating and counting collections using 1-1 correspondence.

We have been making so many new friends across the school and enjoyed a visit from the grade 4 students, who taught us about time! We loved working with our grade 4 friends and even got to show them the books we have been creating!

The Preps should be extremely proud of the work they have put into their learning this Semester, great work Preps!
