Early leavers
Staff have noticed an increasing number of students leaving the college before the end of the day to catch public transport. Students have begun leaving at 2.20pm, 2.30pm and even earlier in some instances. Our staff are concerned about the learning time that some students are missing each day, especially when this is stretched out of a week, a month, a term.
Our expectation is that students are present for all learning and our teachers prepare learning between 9 and 3. This is especially improtant at a VCE Level, where time is particularly precious. We understand the difficulty for some families in negotiating public transport, and we ask for your support in ensuring students are attending during scheduled class times and don't miss out on important learning and school work. If you wish to discuss, please contact Year 11 LCL Claire Sullivan or Year 12 LCL Brett Bullock.
Thank you for your support, we want the best academic outcomes for our students

The year 11 students have settled in well to a busy term 3, as we head toward the serious end of the year. There are a lot of pathway meetings taking place as the students start to finalise their subjects for next year and consider their future pathways. I am looking forward to sitting down with many of the students and their parents next Thursday to continue these discussions. We also had senior students out representing the college in Netball, Basketball and Soccer during the fortnight. Our senior girls’ netball team had a fantastic day, coming away as the winners of the Geelong region and will be heading off to the metro round next week. Zainab Balogun and Evie Christopher were commended by their peers for their standout performances. The senior boys soccer team had a great day, despite having only a small team. They drew 2 games, taking them through to the semi final where they unfortunately went down to Oberon. Obie Miller, Noah Tullio and Hudson Maddalena had stand out moments throughout the day. Cooper Ward-Devlyn showed courage, determination and care in his performance and was recognised by Ms Fowler as a great representative of WHC. The senior boys basketball team came away as the winners of the day and head off to the metro round next Wednesday. The whole team came together as fierce competitors and showed great determination. Devean Lyons was a standout player on court. Good luck to all the teams in the next round!
Claire Sullivan, Year 11 LCL
Welcome back from the mid-year break for all our year 12 students!
Term three is always a demanding term for our students as we begin the final units of their VCE.
In terms of things to do, we suggest that all students should keep an eye out for University, TAFE and other educational open days. Even if there are no plans on going to further education, sometimes further information may help settle plans, or spark an idea that can lead to a future plan.
Several other sessions will be held this term, including VTAC application workshops, SEAS applications etc and more information will be put out as times are set.
Again, with a busy schedule – keep warm and healthy – stay inside and dry as we battle the last of winter.
Well done to the students who represented the college in senior sports this week – I have heard nothing but positive comments form the teachers who took out the teams – we had some success, but I hope the students had fun.
And Finally, as our 12’s begin to get their licences – just a reminder that the school has some specific rules regarding driving to and from school. Students must complete a driving to school form that they can get from the general office to receive a carpark pass. For any more information – please don’t hesitate to ask.

Year 12 Chemistry
Our Year 12 Chemistry students have kicked off Term 3 with an extended experimental investigation on the electrolysis of copper. Splitting into three groups, each team is completing a different experiment and will create a poster similar to what university students produce in an honours degree.
