CAPTAIN'S CORNER
SENIOR CAPTAIN
Now approaching the last few weeks of term, McKinnon’s music students and staff have been working tirelessly to prepare for the biggest performance of the year - the annual Winter Concert!
For our Year 7s, this will be their first opportunity to experience the thrill of performing in front of hundreds at Robert Blackwood Hall - something that we as Year 12 students will never forget. In preparation for this grand event, musicians across all year levels have been attending extra rehearsals before and after school, perfecting some extremely complicated pieces and collaborating with one another to bring their stories to life.
Aside from the Winter Concert, our Wind Symphony and Ovenden Band students too have been preparing for a much-anticipated performance at the Victorian School Music Festival. Held at the Hawthorn Arts Centre from 7pm, symphonic bands from secondary schools across the state will be performing a series of complex and sophisticated pieces, which will all be assessed and judged by a panel of adjudicators. This experience will be extremely beneficial for our music students, as they will be given feedback to expand on their musical talents. Everyone is welcome to attend, so please feel free to stop by and support our brilliant musicians!!
I would also like to congratulate both the Keenan Strings, conducted by Mr Cook, and the school Orchestra, conducted by Ms Videon, who were both awarded a silver place at their VSMF performance on Thursday 27 July.
I wish all of our music students the best of luck in the preparations for these upcoming performances, and I look forward to a great rest of the term!

JUNIOR CAPTAIN
This time of the school year is my favourite. The cold mornings with the sun slowly warming up the day as it goes on. So peaceful. I hope everyone reading is settling into the school term routine and enjoying themselves at both the East and Main Campuses.
Of course, last week every year level enjoyed the annual McKinnon Athletics Carnival where all McKinnon kids had a great time either competing or, how I spent the day, eating some of the delicious sausages our fantastic Student Council provided. The Athletics Carnival was a massive success and I congratulate everyone that took part in some of the many sports held. Big thank you to all the staff and students who made the day what it was.
The East Campus is beginning to have more of a McKinnon Secondary College feel to it and is feeling more ‘worn in’ as a building. The East Campus has many wonderful lunchtime activities that I invite you to check out. Some including Pride Club and Jewish Club are some popular clubs that I personally enjoy and would recommend. But there are many others that the school has to offer run by teachers and students that would love your presence.
If anyone is feeling stressed about any school or personal related issues I strongly hope that you reach out to someone in the Wellbeing Team. School isn’t a place to be stressed.
I wish everyone a happy, healthy and productive rest of the term.
