LIFE SAVING VICTORIA AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

We are excited to announce that on Sunday night, 13 August, the Hampton Life Saving Club and McKinnon Secondary College Life Saving Program was recognised with an Award of Excellence from Life Saving Victoria at their 20 year awards celebration.

In this program, a number of Year 9 students gained their Surf Rescue Certificate and participated in an engaging Life Saving Program that was run at the school and Hampton Beach. Students had a great amount of fun swimming in the waves, learning to rescue board paddle and gaining life skills in emergency management.

It has been an absolute pleasure to see these two communities join together to support and enable young people to branch out, acquire new competences and build confidence, resilience and meaningful connections in their community.

Programs like this are only possible with an exceptional group of people behind them. Thank you so much to everyone who has been a part of this - the McKinnon Staff and Hampton Life Saving Volunteers. In particular a massive shout out to the young trainers from HLSC who were all exceptional educators. Not only teaching life long skills but also being mentors to this group of students. It was wonderful to see our students take this opportunity and be inspired by other young people in their community.

We look forward to continuing to build on this program and seeing many more of our students take part to gain first hand experience of life saving, water safety, working as a team and mentoring others.

ADAM VIRGONA TAKES ON BALL SQUAD DUTIES AT THE FIFA WORLD CUP

Adam Virgona of Year 9 was selected to assist at the ground level of the current FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Adam participated in 3 games:

Nigeria vs Canada

This event required an early start. Adam had to be at the meeting point at 6:45am for a 12:30pm game.

Australia vs Canada

There was a huge swell of buzz and excitement for this match, and he enjoyed being right up close to the action.

Sweden vs USA

In the Round 16 game, Adam was hoping it would go to extra time and penalties. It was ended up an exciting finish to a great competition.

Adam has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Women's World Cup and seeing all the international players on our home turf.

We are thrilled to see our McKinnon students being offered these exciting opportunities and congratulate Adam on his work at the FIFA World Cup.
