If you have a child who will be commencing Foundation at Roberts McCubbin PS in 2024, or know of a friend/relative/associate who is considering joining our wonderful community, enrolments for the 2024 school year are currently open.
Early enrolments greatly assist us in important planning decisions, particularly in preparing our staffing requirements. Fortnightly tours have been held throughout this year and will continue throughout term 3.
I'm sure many in the community have noticed a welcome addition to the roof of our building along Devon Street. Over the holidays, we have had the installation of a 30kw Solar Panel system, which has already reduced our power consumption from the grid, despite the little sunshine Melbourne gives us in winter!
Thank you once again to our whole community for raising the money for our Solar Panels through the 2023 Fair, particularly to the organising committee and School Council. We are looking forward to involving students in collecting and analysing the data from our monitoring system!
We are well aware that many in our community are currently experiencing significant financial hardship at present. In keeping with our strong commitment to inclusion at Roberts McCubbin Primary School, if your family is finding payment for a school event to be prohibitive, please contact myself or Business Manager Melissa for a confidential discussion of options.
Thank you to all families for supporting our student-free day on Monday of this week. We understand that these days can place additional pressures on families in organising care for your children, particularly after two weeks of school holidays!
Monday saw our staff complete the third of four days training in the Berry Street Education Model, with the focus of this day being "Stamina and Engagement". Staff worked with facilitator Judy on looking at research-informed approaches to enhancing classroom stamina and engagement, as well as continuing the themes of the program around trauma-informed practices that benefit all students.
As discussed in previous newsletters, the Victorian School Building Authority have agreed to rectify the lack of effective heating in the building that runs along Devon Street.
After a further submission from school leadership, the Project Managers are also facilitating a temporary heating solution that we are hopeful of seeing very shortly. Planning is ongoing with the appointed designers to formulate a long-term solution to heating and cooling in this building.
In Victoria, influenza (flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection numbers are high among children aged 5 to 11 years, particularly in those in their first few years of school. The Victorian Department of Health expects more respiratory infections over Term 3.
Most children with flu or RSV have a mild fever, runny nose or cough. Some children, particularly babies and children with underlying medical conditions, may have more severe illness.
Keeping our school community well
Parents, carers and students are encouraged to:
Our school has masks for staff, students and visitors if they want to wear them.

Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and your family from getting the flu.
Annual flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and older. As part of the National Immunisation Program, it is free for:
