STEM

What a fantastic term in STEM! Over the last few weeks, students have been putting their coding 'caps' on and have created incredible sequences of code- from games, runway shows, restaurants, mazes and more!

Coding, or computer programming, is giving instructions to a computer or robot. This term we have learnt to code using block code in ScratchJr, Scratch, Sphero’s, Beebots and Minecraft Edu.

If this is something your child would like to continue over the holidays, Scratch

(scratch.mit.edu) is a free website for students suitable for years 3-6. For younger students, the ScratchJr and Beebot apps are free on the App Store.

Code.org is a fantastic resource for free hour-long coding tutorials for students of all ages - even adults!

Well done to all students for your dedication, persistence and excitement. You should all be so proud of your effort this term!

Performing Arts

We’ve had some great Performing Arts excursions in the last two weeks.

On Wednesday 14/6, the Grade 4 students went to the Playhouse Theatre to see a live performance of ‘Hide the Dog’, a story about the friendship and connecting different cultures.

On Thursday 22/6, the Grade 3 students also went to the Playhouse Theatre, to see a children’s opera show called ‘The Grumpiest Boy in the World’, a story about a boy trying to identify what makes him special.

It was great to see many students experiencing being at a large theatre for the first time, and soaking in all the elements that make up a live performance.

Physical Education

The students this have been lucky to have AFL Victoria come out to our school and deliver an AFL program to all students across all year levels at Sunny Heights.

Students have been working on their skills as well as participating in some fun team games.

Interschool Sport

We had an amazing effort from all students for interschool sport this term, with grade 5 and 6's participating in AFL, Newcombe, T-ball, Netball and Modified Games.

Shout to all the students as they showed amazing sportsmanship amongst their team mates and opponents.
