Meet our Bright Sparks!

Here we meet some of our incredible and passionate teachers...

We decided to start a bit of a new feature in our newsletter - a way to meet all our staff beyond saying hi in the corridor or on duty. We will keep sharing more bios in here each fortnight so you get so find out about more our teachers and why we love doing what we do!

Miss Angela in 3A

Why I love teaching: 3A believe that I wanted to become a teacher because I thought it would be fun to spend more time with kids. They say that I love teaching since I met them, because they are glorious and most of them listen well.

Now, the real reason I wanted to become a teacher is because I couldn’t become a comedian. This was the closest occupation I could do where people would laugh at my jokes, or at me.

In all seriousness, I’ve always loved being around kids. I love growing and learning with my students, and seeing how their personalities blossom as the years go pass. I love being around like-minded people who I work with, who also want the best for our little learners.

Fun fact: I’m actually not that funny, haha. I love to go solo camping and have an unhealthy obsession with Crocs.

Strengths and Talents: Well, where do I start… according to 3A, I have an IQ of a banana. I am talentedly annoying, funny, but I’m strict! I would say that my talents and strengths are that I am a very curious human being and I love to learn. I am extremely loving and once again, I am funny!

If I was in charge of Sunny Heights for a day, I would make all the teachers do a TikTok dance. I would also have a designated nap time, but that’s what Dead Fish is for, isn’t it?

Miss Britta in 5A

Why I love teaching: I love teaching and being part of the school community because of the fresh outlook children have towards the world. The joy and awe they display when responding to new information, or the world around them is truly contagious.

I had wanted to teach ever since I could remember. I think this was due partly to some of the amazing teachers I had as a little person. I remember the warmth, kindness and encouragement they oozed when I was in primary school. I thought “it must be the best job in the world”. I was right!

Fun fact: Something that may be surprising about me is that I really enjoy going to the gym and using the weights and weight machines. I feel so much better after I’ve spent a bit of time challenging myself physically – I feel stronger and more energised. Sometimes though, a bit achy the next day.

Strengths and Talents: As a massive reader, (I devour a thick book per week – fiction or nonfiction) one of my strengths is sharing the massive possibilities and magic each book can offer the reader. Learning about the fun way the author has used descriptive language, the words an author uses to evoke mood and feelings or the crucial information and facts a book contains, is something I love passing on to students.

If I was in charge of the school for a day I would hold a ‘music day’. Each student would be encouraged to research and find out about a chosen musician – famous or otherwise and share this new information with a buddy and their family. We would have music playing all day through the speakers and have a chance for each class to play with instruments and create their own class song!

Miss Sophie in 1B

Why I love teaching: The joy of being a part of young peoples learning is why I wanted to be a teacher. Listening to my students curiosity and wonder about their world is truly special to be a part of. When you can help a child try something for the first time, embrace the challenge and problem solve their way through it to be successful, it is an amazing moment to share.

Fun fact: A surprising fact about me is that I left the warm sunny beaches of the Gold Coast to live in chilly Melbourne.

Strengths and Talents: My Strengths are my open mindedness and positive outlook. My talent (or passion) is getting creative by painting, drawing or playing with clay.

If I was in charge of the school for a day I wouldn’t change a thing because it’s such a special place to be!
