Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It is hard to believe we are coming to the end of Term Two and the first Semester is almost over! As always, many wonderful learning opportunities have taken place at Sacred Heart and it's been a very busy term both inside and outside our school. We have enjoyed many major excursions, incursions, guest speakers, sports days and Open Days to name a few. Each time your children represent their school so beautifully, which is frequently acknowledged by others. Well done everyone.

Yesterday I proudly watched as our Year 5/6 celebrated their creativity and talents at the Festival of the Sacred. Over the past term, the ASPA team have visited Sacred Heart to encourage meaningful involvement in the Arts and to see what the children were able to present to a public audience yesterday was quite amazing. Thank you to Catholic Education Sandhurst for supporting and valuing the opportunity for our students to develop confidence through the song and dance and exposing them to the joy the Arts brings. Thank you to Karen Nihill and the 5/6 teachers who worked hard with our students to make sure it all came together on the day. It was a wonderful performance from all the children sharing the talents that God has given them in such an energic, happy way. Congratulations and well done to each and every one of you.

Thank you to Leigh Martin, Senior Environmental Advisor with Regional Rail Revival (Acciona), who last week spoke to our Year 5/6 students about the new modern railway lines which will take passengers from Shepparton to Melbourne more quickly. He also introduced students to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Goals with students developing one sustainability goal that they could work on such as have shorter showers, recycle more and use public transport.

On Friday, we will celebrate the Feast of the Sacred. This special school Feast Day reminds us of Christ’s great love for each one of us. The heart is the centre of a person, the place from where choices are made, choices which affect those around them. No matter who Jesus met, the poor, sick, the troubled, those of different race, he always showed a great love and compassion towards them. As Sacred Heart community, we strive to be more like Jesus, loving those we meet every day.  It means showing tolerance, forgiving, sharing what we have with those who don’t, helping others when they need it most. Being inspired by Christ.

On the Feast of the Sacred Heart, we will celebrate together with Mass at 9:15am. Families are most welcome to join us. Following the Mass we will do some investigating into our Founders’ - the Sisters of Mercy, our history and the Mercy Values. Year 5/6 will visit the old Mercy convent [currently the CES offices], 3/4s will learn more about the Society of SVDP and the Early Years will investigate the Sacred Heart of Jesus and ways we can show our love to others. A very important part of our Feast Day is the act of giving generously to those in need. We are currently collecting items for our Winter Appeal which will be donated to our local St Vinnies on Friday.   Thank you, families, for all the generous donations received so far. There is still time if you are able to donate to our collection in the foyer.

Semester One Summative Reports will be available on PAM, through Simon Everywhere next Tuesday.  It really has been a pleasure reading the reports and seeing the learning that have taken place over the first half of the year. Well done to the students for all their efforts. Parents you should be very proud!  Thank you to the teachers for the time spent ensuring each report provides valuable feedback.  Please take the time to read and reflect on the report with your child, congratulate them on their achievements and discuss any future needs for growth as this is an integral part of their development as a learner. Learning Conversations will take place Week 2, Term 3 but if you wish to discuss anything prior to that, please contact your child’s teacher.

Unfortunately, our School Advisory Council was cancelled last night.  The next SAC will be held next term.

A reminder that Friday 23th June is the last day of term. Assembly will be at 9:15am as classes will be dismissed at 2:30pm.  I hope you all have a relaxing holiday break with your families and look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday 10th July ready for the new term.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
