CURRICULUM FOCUS

In the Resilience Project this week we are learning about Problem Solving and how there are Big and Small problems.


VOCABULARY

Problem: a situation or an issue that can affect yourself or other people and the way that they might feel or act.

 

Solution: Solving or fixing the problem.

 

Small Problem: A problem that can be solved quickly by yourself.

 

Big Problem: A problem where you need help from others or an adult.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

 

With your child, discuss what a Problem and a Solution are. For example: a problem is when something wrong usually happens.

 

Discuss how you feel when a problem might happen you can use a variety of problems such as; 

 

  • When someone doesn’t want to play with me
  • When someone isn’t sharing 
  • If you fall down and hurt yourself.
  • Spilling all of my water out of my drink bottle.

 

Explain that there are Big and Small Problems, these are problems that we can solve by ourselves or with the help of an adult.

 

Your child can draw or write about Big and Small problems that they can solve by themselves and when they would need the help of an adult.

Someone fell down and bumped their head.

Small Problem

I dropped my pencil on the floor
