Assistant Principal Report - Junior School

Mrs June Sainsbery

The middle of the year is a good time to do some reflection and set goals for the remainder of the year. This can include celebrating the successes of semester one and looking at areas for improvement.  Students can ask themselves:  ‘Am I working to my full potential?’  ‘What things could I do differently to get a better result?’  Some minor tweaks can have positive outcomes. For example, making better use of the student organiser, cleaning/tidying lockers, setting aside time each day to review lessons and look at upcoming tasks.    Acknowledging personal strengths and areas to work on It is also important.  Questions to ask include:  ‘Am I proud of the way I conduct myself?’  ‘Am I a good friend?’  ‘Am I being the best version of myself?’  Students can always talk to their Year Level Co-ordinators or teachers for advice and support.

Year 7 camp will run in week three next term.  Staff and students are excited to be travelling to PGL Adventure Camp, which is located at Campaspe Downs, near Kyneton.  The camp is a great opportunity for students to foster positive relationships with staff and students as well as build confidence and experience success as part of a team.

The year 8s will be participating in series of engagement activities during week 3 whilst the year 7s are on camp.  This program is designed to foster school/peer connectedness, confidence, and teamwork.  The Year 8 team will be sending out further information at the end of term.

The year 9s are beginning their journey to senior school.  They participated in a course selection day in week six.  The Pathways team presented to the students and explained the options that are available in Year 10.  A panel of senior students were part of a ‘Q&A’ session that answered questions about subjects, certificates, and the senior school.  It was a delight to walk around the E Wing at lunch time and chat to the students about their plans for 2024.

All parents/carers are encouraged to attend the relevant information night for their student in the first few weeks of next term:

Tuesday 18 July – Year 9 into 10 Information Night – 6.30

Monday 24 July – Year 8 into 9 Information Night – 6.30

I wish you all a safe and relaxing break and look forward to seeing students return re-energised for term three.
