Assistant Principal Report Senior School

By James Cumming

As Term 2 comes to a close, our students begin semester 2 roll over. VCE students have begun unit 2 and 4 studies and year 10s will undertake new elective subjects.

On Thursday 15th of June, all senior students undertaking a unit 3 and 4 study completed the General Achievement Test (GAT). The General Achievement Test is administered by VCAA, and plays an important role in moderation and quality assurance of VCE assessments.

Year 10 and 11 students completed mid-year exams between the 19th of May and 7th of June. The exam period provided students with an opportunity to practice their revision and preparation techniques, as well as the skills associated with completing an exam. This aims to prepare our students for Unit 3/4 VCAA exams. I encourage all students to reflect upon their results and study habits, in order to further improve for the end of year exams.

The Year 10s completed work experience form the 13th to the 16th of June. It has been pleasing to hear the success stories of our students in the workplace. All students will be given an opportunity to complete work experience reflection activities during Learning Journeys.

Looking ahead, our year 10 and 11 students will be undertaking course selection during the early stages of Term 3. Please find the key dates below. I encourage all students and parents to begin discussions regarding future pathways, career goals and subject selections over the holidays. Information regarding course selection will be provided by the pathways and year level teams via Compass. Students will complete preparation activities during VCE Program and Learning Journeys and complete a one on one course selection meeting with a member of staff.

  • 19th July- Year 11 into 12 Course Selection Meetings (Year 11 classes cancelled period 2-4)
  • 20th July- Year 10 into 11 Information Evening

I hope all senior students have a safe and restful holiday break.
