Library Display: “Banksy-inspired street Art”

Banksy-inspired Street Artwork – 9Arx2 2020 Library Display

Well, it goes without saying that 2020 was a very surreal and strange year for our community. But in the midst of it all some definite artistic gems were created and polished within EDSC Arts, despite our lacking capacity to put them on display around the school.

One such gem was a very brief spontaneous 3-week unit of work produced in 9ARX2. This unit was created at the very end of the year when it became obvious there was insufficient time to complete a much larger folio process, and students actively voted to determine what creative project we would invest our time towards. And that project turned out to be a “Banksy-inspired Street Artwork”.

For anyone not in the know, “Banksy” is a mysterious figure in the Art World whose identity remains unknown. His creative works can (and do) sell for millions of dollars, despite the fact many of them could be simply described as “Street Art”. His work is often humorous but at the same time usually incorporates a social message identifying some a theme which he believes society has a duty to address or solve.

And so, it was that the class very quickly planned and produced their own artworks emulating Banksy’s style, in turn also pushing a social theme that the students chose individually. The students threw themselves into the task with gusto and much joy was had and the artworks reflected this fact.

Sadly, there was no time to put them up on display in 2020 which much disappointed the class, so I dutifully promised them I would put the work up at the first available opportunity in 2021. And true to my word they went up on display in the Library in week 1, 2021

So, for your viewing pleasure here are some of their efforts for you to enjoy. Thanks to all the below students who threw themselves into this task with such passion.
