School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships during COVID
2021 has seen a pleasing number of students take the opportunity to undertake a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship either in our atEAST VCAL or VCE HeadStart programs.
Many of the industries in which our students complete their qualifications are identified skills shortage areas – and so their prospects for secure ongoing employment and further higher training opportunities are very strong into the future.
Despite the challenges that COVID has posed, the vast majority of our students have secured employment. While they may not have been able to attend work this week (like most of us!) they are very keen to return hopefully next week!
Some in our school community may be interested in how this system works for employers. With current Government incentives, many apprentices can be employed for the next 6 months for as little as $2 per hour (with our students receiving apprentice and trainee wages as set by Fair Work Australia).
Along with the flexibility of employing our young people on a part time basis – while they continue to build the Literacy and Numeracy skills at school that will benefit both them and their workplace – our students are incredibly keen, ready to learn, and supported to be their best at work and at TAFE by HeadStart and atEAST field officers.
