Respectful Relationships News

Everyone in our community deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally. We know that changes in attitudes and behaviours can be achieved when positive attitudes, behaviours and equality are embedded in our education settings.

Respectful Relationships is about embedding a culture of respect and equality across our entire community, from our classrooms to staffrooms, sporting fields, fetes and social events. This approach leads to positive impacts on student’s academic outcomes, their mental health, classroom behaviour, and relationships between teachers and students.

Together, we can lead the way in saying yes to respect and equality, and creating genuine and lasting change so that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

The EDSC Respectful Relationships Pledge:

"All members of our school community have a responsibility to stand up against family violence and the misuse of gender power and control. We foster relationships that are respectful, caring and fair."

If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic violence the following services are available

Chiaki Chng wins 2020 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence poster competition

During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, all students in Melbourne Inner East Respectful Relationship schools were invited to create a poster to raise awareness of this campaign. The posters were judged by a panel who looked at the message (respectful relationships/gender equality/challenging gender stereotypes), originality and aesthetics.

I am proud to announce that Chiaki Chng (Year 11) was successful in winning the Secondary Competition – she will receive her prize early in Term 1 and will have her poster professionally printed and distributed to all Inner East Respectful Relationships schools during the 16 Days of Activism this year.

What a great effort and a positive way to end 2020.

About GIRLING UP

Mayim Bialik, star of The Big Bang Theory, puts her Ph.D. to work as she talks to teens about the science of growing up and getting ahead. A must-have book for all teenage girls.

Growing up as a girl in today’s world is no easy task. Juggling family, friends, romantic relationships, social interests and school…sometimes it feels like you might need to be a superhero to get through it all! But really, all you need is little information.

Want to know why your stomach does a flip-flop when you run into your crush in the hallway? Or how the food you put in your body now will affect you in the future? What about the best ways to stop freaking out about your next math test?

Using scientific facts, personal anecdotes, and wisdom gained from the world around us, Mayim Bialik, the star of The Big Bang Theory, shares what she has learned from her life and her many years studying neuroscience to tell you how you grow from a girl to a woman biologically, psychologically and sociologically.
