In the Art / Craft Room

Art
We have had a very busy term creating our Joy Hester influenced portriats. Joy Hester is an Australian artist, who was part of an innovative group of Melbourne based artists called the Angry Penguins. She was a trailblazer for her time, being the only female artist amongst the group, who regularly met at Heide to create art.
All students have been exploring charcoal as a drawing and painting medium. By mixing water and other mediums together, students have been having a lot of fun experimenting with different art techniques, focusing on pattern, tone and shape. Our next challenge is looking at Australian animals to create artworks using charcoal and ink, as seen in the works of Joy Hester.
Parents and carers are most welcome to assist in the art room to support student learning. You will need a current working with children check. Please sign in at the office before you come to the art room.
Looking forward to working with all you,
Antoinette Vaiano
Craft
Students have made great progress on their felting craft works. We have been exploring both wet and dry felting depending on the item being made. Students demonstrated great perseverance and resilience to take their works to the completed stages.
In the Foundation class, the children have made felted coils and and felted rocks/toys.
Both class one and class two have created different felted objects with a centre foam resist. As we continue the felting process each class will decide what the craft item is to be used for.
Class 3 are making square treasure boxes and class four are making cylinder trinket boxes.
Class 5/6 are creating felted bowls which are starting to look so beautiful.
