A Message from Leon

The end of Term One is rapidly approaching.  It has been a busy term and our school is progressing well into learning and teaching initiatives as well as ensuring students settling back into school over the longer term.

Our Preps have now transitioned to being at school full time and across the school assessments have been completed in our school priority of reading and writing.  Staff have completed Professional Learning in assessing and teaching of reading and have recently completed planning for term two.

School Council elections have commenced and voting closes on March 25th.  Please make sure you hand in your ballots to the office.  If you require another ballot, please contact the school and we will organise one to be sent home to you can collect one directly from the office.   Election results will be announced on Friday March 26th.  Our new School Council will have the first meeting on Tuesday March 30th.

This year we have commenced a partnership with AFL Sportsready.  They provide traineeships for young adults studying sport with practical experiences.  This year Tayah Quayle is completing a traineeship in sports development and part of her work will be based at Thornbury Primary School in 2021. Tayah is a proud Yugambeh woman who will be working with students in various year levels on engagement and student leadership through sports and culture.  She will also take an active role in our student leadership program Nangitt Balit (Strong leaders).

I would like to remind families to ensure all school fees are paid.  Our school has limited funds and similar to most organizations, COVID had an impact on our school financially.

If you require a payment plan,  please contact the office and we can arrange a plan that suits you.

Many of you would remember Malini our wonderful crossing supervisor for over 25 years.  Malini has announced her retirement effective immediately for family reasons.

The students and staff are having a special farewell assembly for her on Monday afternoon March 29th.

I wish Malini and her family a happy retirement.

I would like to remind families that term one finishes on Thursday April 1st (no not a joke!). at 2:30pm.  We have a Curriculum Day Monday 19th April so our Term two commences on Tuesday 20th April at 9.00am .

As Easter approaches,  I would also hope that families enjoy time together during the festivities.   I know that Easter is an important time to some of our families.

Ngoon Godjin for your support during Term one.
