Performing Arts

The recent school play production of Clue brought another great opportunity for some of our Koonung music students to perform in the foyer as light entertainment for the audience members waiting to take their seats as theatre doors opened. This was a great experience for these students as this type of performance allows them the create a setlist of 30 minutes' worth of performing material and put thought into which songs would suit as light background music. This is a great way for them to utilise skills that will be very useful to them seeking music performance work out in the public domain.

On Thursday night's performance, 18 March, James Lonnen was able to put his collection of classical songs to the test and even road test some upcoming AMEB exam material as he performed solo piano on Koonung's beautiful foyer grand piano.

On Friday night's performance, 19 March, Taneka Huber was able to present a selection of her own contemporary compositions on the piano and vocals as she hones her talents as a singer/songwriter. There is even a good rumour going that Miss Foy joined in with her to sing a song on the night!

On Saturday night, 20 March, Koonung's own String Quartet performed a selection of works they have been rehearsing since the end of last year. This included string quartet arrangements of Bach chorales, some of Mozart's most well-known pieces and some more contemporary, fun arrangements of popular classical works. The Koonung String Quartet led by Joshua Verco consists of Ocean Yap on Violin, James Lonnen on Viola and Andy Ma also on Violin, who unfortunately wasn't able to be present at this performance.

A congratulations to all students who participated in this series of successful performances!
