Middle Years

Year 7 camp

We left as a group of students from 42 different primary schools and we returned as the Year 7 Koonung Class of 2021, and the winners being anyone who set foot on one of the four buses that left for 3 days of adventure. Alexandra Adventure Resort was the destination for camp for our new Year 7s during an action packed seventh week of the school year. The weather was kind and the experience was overwhelmingly positive. The camp's primary purpose was to build friendships and generally challenge each student to “get out of their comfort zone”. All students participated in activities such as flying fox, high ropes, giant swing, archery and climbing wall, as well as water sports such as raft making, canoeing and swimming. Students also had a chance to play laser tag and other novel activities.

The night time activities were excellent also, with some valuable time spent developing some key values that we will be using as a Year 7 cohort to underpin our culture, as well as our traditional talent show which showcased an eclectic mix of acts. We also roasted some marshmallows around a fire and went on a night walk.

The behaviour and attitude of the students was nothing short of fantastic, making the camp a perfect platform to launch the year. Special thanks to all staff members who gave up their time to make this camp happen. Events like these don’t happen without the hard work and good will of staff.

Without Chelsea Thomas, David Kennedy, Alistair Tuffnell, Sarah Hobson, Claire Murray, Owen Tozer, Sharyn Paspa, Chloe Stimar, Kate Hindell, Jonathan Moore, Ben Hurley, Peter Scott, Kate Arnold, Eryn Tyler, Helen Lamers, Karen Rowe and Abby Laffin giving their time, these camps simply don’t happen.

Overall, a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience for all concerned.

Well done Johnny Suares

Congratulations to Johnny Suares (9G) who recently competed in the Victorian Pole Vault State Championships. Considering Johnny hasn't jumped for over a  year and is coming off a back injury he performed extremely well to finish in third place.

We wish Johnny all the best for the upcoming national championship in Sydney in April.
