Teaching & Learning  1R

In 1R we have had a wonderful start to the year, getting a feel for being in Grade 1 and building new relationships with each other. We have had a big focus on Enjoying Positive Emotions, which is part of our THRIVE Positive Education Framework, and have connected our reading in with this. We recently read the book 'Thelma the Unicorn' and started to understand that we are all unique and individual; ‘There is no one else like me’ is a common phase heard in our classroom.

You will also hear a lot of:

“I am smart!”

“I am resilient!”

“I am beautiful!”

“I am confident!”

“I can do this!”

We have been using Positive Affirmations within our classroom. We have set up a mirror so that anytime we are feeling down or stuck, we can go over, look ourselves in the eye and remind ourselves that we are able to do anything when we put our mind to it!

In Math’s learning, we have been working on our skip counting by twos, fives, tens and hundreds. We have made a magnificent hand display for skip counting by fives to help us remember the pattern. We also read ‘The Ants go Marching 2 by 2’, a skip counting book that helps us remember how to skip count by twos. There is a fun student made display of this too. Take a look!
