Masters of Mathematics!

Once again, St Xavier’s has been selected to participate in the Mathematics Improvement Strategy in 2021. Students in Grades 1 through to 4 will participate in engaging and authentic mathematical experiences to build confidence and understanding in Maths. Students will experience success to the best of their ability and build resilience in their approach to Mathematics.

Year 3 has been posing questions and collecting data to get to know each other better as they started their first year of Primary. What is your favourite sport? What do you like to do after school? Do you have any pets?

Groups of students identified questions of things they would like to know about each other. They then created categories in order to gather information about their classmates. The answers were collected and used to create data displays, with students analysing this data to make conclusions about their class. Students were able to discuss the different types of data displays made, identifying the advantages and disadvantages of the different representations of their data.

Did you know that Swimming is the most popular Sport of students in Year 3 and that the most popular season is Summer?

Year 4 Exploring Forces

Year 4 have been enjoying Exploring Forces with Miss Fitzsimmons! They have been using their knowledge in very practical ways.

Year 5 Homework Presentations

Year 5 is in the midst of listening to Homework Presentations. Year 5 had the option of completing a Science Experiment.

Their homework task was for them to be a Scientist! They could make any of the following substances; Space Foam, Lava Lamp, Playdough, Galaxy Slime, Glow Bouncing Balls, Crystals, Shaving Cream Rain Clouds or Silly Putty. Year 5 needed to research the recipe themselves and present their work in the form of a procedure and bring their creation to school to present to the class.

Here is Erica presenting her amazing Play Dough creation!
