PRAYER
Lord,
Let everything I do this day and in this season of Lent come from you, be inspired by you.
Help me to remember that nothing is important in my life unless it glorifies you in some way.
It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day of my life and keep saying, "Tomorrow, I will spend more time in prayer," but now my longing meets your love and I want to do it now.
Help me to rely on you for help. Heal me, Lord, and help me to find you in the darkness of my life.
Let me reach out in this darkness and feel your hand and love there to guide me.
Amen

Shrove (Pancake) Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday (the day before the start of Lent) was yesterday, the 16th February. Previously St Xavier’s has recognised this occasion by holding a pancake stall at recess, but we were unable to host this event this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday dates back to the era of Pope St. Gregory around the 6th Century who ordered the people of England to abstain from eating all foods that come from flesh during Lent, meaning these people would use up all the eggs, milk and butter in their houses by making pancakes.
Ash Wednesday
Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. St Xavier’s Primary students will celebrate a Liturgy in the St Xavier’s Hall to mark the beginning of the Lenten Period.
During Ash Wednesday, we are called to engage in fasting, prayer and almsgiving (donating to the poor). St Xavier’s classes will host some Project Compassion fundraising events throughout the Lenten period, but students will also be bringing home a Project Compassion Mission Box to help promote almsgiving at home. Any donations are greatly appreciated. These mission boxes will stay at home until the end of the term.
