Principals Message

Dear Parents and Carers,
Maria Goretti ended a long drought and brought home both the participation and points trophies at our recent Swimming Carnival. The Carnival went off without a hitch and from all reports the children had lots of fun. School spirit was evident with each House cheering loudly throughout the day.
Heidi Hardaker, who is the Sports Coordinator from the Catholic Schools Office, was in attendance and had the following to say;
“Thank you for allowing me to attend your swimming carnival. The carnival was very, very well organised and a great opportunity for the students to participate in swimming. St Xavier’s Gunnedah certainly has some fabulous swimmers! The parent support on the day was great and they showed enthusiasm and encouragement to all swimmers. A credit to the staff and parent community for instilling in the children great sportsmanship, the ability to encourage others and beautiful manners. Please pass on my congratulations to the school community.”
We too appreciate the professional manner in which the parents assisted us in running the Carnival. Thirty swimmers will represent St. Xavier's at the Diocesan Carnival on Friday 26th February. .
Last Friday our new priest Father Abmar celebrated the Opening School Mass. Our Yr 6 leaders were presented with their badges as part of the celebration. Father Abmar is a very engaging speaker and the children listened eagerly to his words about being good and respecting their peers, parents and teachers. There were a few giggles and laughs to be heard as well, he is a funny man! The children are looking forward to the time when Father can visit the classrooms.
This Wednesday begins the season of LENT. The whole school will take part in a liturgy at 12.20. During this liturgy ashes will be sprinkled on each person's head. This change from the cross being drawn on each forehead is inline with Church COVID restrictions.
This week has seen the kitchen cupboards and classroom joinery arrive and installed in the new building. You know things are getting close when this step is completed. The carpet will be soon and then the technology fit out. We will continue to send updates via Facebook.
Please keep in mind the impact being late has on your child’s learning. Minutes add up to hours and this can have a real effect on your child. An education is the greatest gift you can give your child and the learning starts the minute they walk in the classroom door.
Thanks for supporting us at the recent parent information sessions. The more we can do together the better it will be for the children.
Kind regards,
Jen
